  • We have not applied for a loan on any silly websites, we applied to Sainsburys Bank. They have taken our information from their website which is fraud. Our bank is on their case at the moment.

Who ever it was that mentioned living beyond their means needs shooting. Obviously has never been made redundant.

Thinking you can get a loan from Green Leaf Finance wont help anyone especially when redundant as you have to be careful your money and not waste it.

Are you saying Sainsbury's Bank has passed on your details to a third party without your consent?

Sometimes, these companies may be located abroad in countries that do not have data protection laws. We will use your details to assist us in understanding individual needs and business trends in order to improve the products and services we offer.

Just made redundant, can't afford to pay your bills and you want a loan. Provident and Shopacheck are your best options. I doubt a prime lender, such as Sainsbury's Bank, will be interested.
  • The Office of Fair Trading say that these companies cannot charge more than £5.00 admin fees for loan applications so report them to the Office of Fair Trading.
  • On the same day I had green leaf finance take £49.99 and Loans Direct take £69.99 from my bank account without any warning, e.mail or letter! Loans Direct state that they only take a fee if they get you a loan! Well I didn't continue anyway with getting a loan because there was too many re-directions to other webs sites so I gave up. So not had a loan but had a fee taken. As for Green leaf finance, I made sure I jotted down any loans website I used so I knew who had my information! I also ticked the box for no third parties! and Green leaf finance I have never used or tried to use yet they have taken 49.99 from my bank without warning or permission. So this resulted in my account going into overdraft which now leaves me with overdraft fees. I'm fuming that they are allowed to do this when I haven't even took out a loan.

You've got to stop throwing your bank details out to any colourful looking website you stumble on...

Read what is all about first or ask on here before going gooey eyed at the pound signs.
  • Hi everyone,

Just responding to all the posts below. I also got charged. I did apply to some loans online, some of which were brokers. I admit that I put myself at risk for such things, but I had made sure I opted out of every possible options for these companies to pass my details on to third parties and or affiliates. Sadly, anyone can put disclaimers, terms and conditions, opt out options on websites and don't necessarily follow what they state. SO, for those who made sarcastic remarks about 'not reading their terms and conditions' cop on to the fact that even my 2 year old can create a website with all of the legal jargon under the son and she will still carry on being a 2 year old without a care in the world about the terms and conditions !

Getting to the point, as soon as I saw the charge, I phoned my bank and filed a fraudulent chage on my account. Although I was put through at least 3 different departments and after a total of 35 minute wait, I got through to my bank's dispute team who contacted Green Leaf Finance straight away. They did confirm their telephone number is active, but you can only leave messages. My bank went ahead and opened a dispute claim against them and lo' and behold, the charges that Green Leaf had taken out is back in my account (less than 24 hours!!).

There were some comments here about doing a bit of the leg work and research to put this right and not let these companies get away with such things. HOWEVER, to those that posted comments and questions about the 'hows and whys' did you get yourself in financial difficulties, or 'what made you think of you going to these companies' comments, please note that comments were not only irrelevant, but also very unhelpful and quite selfish! People face financial difficulties everyday (whether self-inflicted or not). It is no excuse, however, to make such comments to those already stressing, depressed, panicked, and frankly feeling like the world is crashing down on them. If you've got nothing useful or constructive to comment, don't comment at all !

Hi, and Welcome to MSE. Glad you got your money back.

I would take exception to your final comment. Many of us on this site DO help people like yourself who have been swindled by loan brokers, but many times those you mention (people desperate for money) do themselves no favours by giving out debit card details to all and sundry in the mistaken hope that money will flow into their account only to find the opposite is the truth.

I have lost count of the number of times I've given out the same information on this site about how to get your money back, and it does become a little tedious when you have to keep repeating yourself time and time again.

It's only by getting people to READ TERMS AND CONDITIONS before they commit themselves instead of afterwards can we hope to stop people falling into the trap set by these shysters. By being soft to people is not the way to make people change their behaviour in many instances. Frequently, people are their own worst enemy and it's only by metaphorically shaking them by their lapels can we sometimes instil in some people how stupid they have been.

Most of us on this site give advice based on our own experience. I myself have fought to get a fee back on behalf of my own son (successfully). Don't antagonise those that give advice but frequently have a go at someone's stupidity. It's only be seeing that an action is crass can some people begin to realise the folly of their actions.

The" why " you are in this mess is important to prevent it happening again eg a utility bill (could be a mobile phone bill or a credit card bill) could be getting more and more expensive and you find you have not much money or zero left to pay it so you take out a pay day loan or an expensive loan from 1 of these companies which a broker found you.

Looking what your spending your money on would also go someway to maybe helping in the future if similar situation occurs.
