I have just been trawling through the thread regarding Green Leaf Finance et al, and am somewhat bemused by the tone of some of the postings.

Not one of us are saints, in fact I would guess that most of us are sinners, in one form or another. It is easy to deride someone else’s small mistakes, we all make them, and it’s called being a fallible human.

Instead of posting caustic, ‘clever comments’ about another member of the forums short comings; surely, the kindest thing would be to offer, if not constructive advice, at least support.

It is so easy to be wise and pontificate over another person’s failures. "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? (I hasten to add, I am an atheist, but the moral holds true)

But if you're going to give people your payment card details then surely you would do your research and find out what you are agreeing to.

To answer your question that you for some reason decided to post in a forum section relating to competitions.

Your son is 17, so he is not legally able to get a loan or enter into a contract. Did he tell them he was only 17 or did he omit that bit of information?

Had you bothered to read the T&C of Green Leaf Finance you would see that he can request a refund of his fee in writing within 14 days and they will refund.

We have never heard of them until this incident. They have not contacted us in any way, only to take money out, which the bank has verified. Does your son have any idea what website(s) he entered his details on? He may well get a shock as more and more fees are debited from his account.

The fact that he claims not to have entered details on their site is not really relevant - they have charged him a fee, so he has 14 days to write in and cancel their services and they will then refund.

It would also be a good idea if you sat him down and explained to him the problems he could face in future if he continually goes around entering personal details on random websites.

As I said before, under 18s can not legally enter into a contract, so there is not such thing as a "loan for under 18" and anyone who is claiming to offer one is just out to scam people.

    Hi

The same thing has happened to me, I was checking my online banking and there was a card payment of £49.99 to Green Leaf Finance. I have never heard of this company and upon checking their website there isn't even a form where you can put bank details in, so how did they get my details I want to know. I tried contacting them by phone, email and post but you never get a reply.

Stupidly, I did put my details into a loan broker website, but I didnt know at the time that's' what it was, I thought I was just applying for a loan as it wasn't made clear on the site, like many other people. Anyway, some of these loan brokers sell your details on to other loan brokers, which is against data protection laws.

So I phoned my bank and registered a complaint with the Debit card dispute team, they refunded my money and are investigating Green Leaf Finance, I then contacted Trading Standards, and explained everything to them, they gave me some good advice and told me to contact the Information Commissioners Office who deal with data protection breaches. But as nobody has contacted these places before they dont have enough to do an investigation, so everyone who has had this happen to them needs to contact Trading Standards and the Information Commissioners Office to stop them from doing it to loads more people.

Sorry to ramble on, it just gets on my nerves that companies can get away with this.

The go.den rule is never put your card details into a website unless you are buying something, check out the website and have confidence in the company, if you can't confirm these then don't do it.
