Is it worth mentioning that Nottingham's highly tempting 5% rate is only available in branch? I was all excited until I found my nearest branch is 106 miles away :(

Unless I'm missing some fabulous loophole!

Thanks for your continuing work Kazza.
Search as I may, I can't find any account which the Nottingham currently allows customers to open 'by post' - even the one I did open by post a few years back - the regular saver - Here's the link:

    http://www.thenottingham.com/savings/our-range-of-accounts/

It is understandable that they want to keep their branches open - and have quite an extensive network which could support a large inflow in theory- but how many people (even those living in Nottingham) really want to go in to a branch when investing savings in these days of the internet? Good rates, notwithstanding, aren't many of those denizens going to choose other banks and building societies precisely because they use all the available 'channels' - and therefore offer convenience?

Those retro passbooks I seem to end up with every year around this time give me chills :rotfl:
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

Opened a Principality 3 YR FR ISA @ 4.17% on Wednesday am to transfer outdated ISAs in (it was released Tuesday pm) - had a phone yesterday afternoon to say it has been withdrawn !! .....but replaced by an offering @ 4.22%
I've got to go into my local branch to sign revised paperwork for the new issue 81 ...... bit of a pain but its worth another £40 for me!
Just don't understand the logic since 4.17% seemed pretty attractive to me anyway!

Just thinking about the Birmingham Midshires 3.1% ISA. If I deposit over £20K do I can 3.1% on ALL of the money or do I get this just on the money in excess of £20K?

    Thanks for any info :)

Open to correction, but as I understand it if they say it is "tiered" you get the top interest rate on the whole balance; if they say it is "banded" you get it only on the top slice of money.
Free the dunston one next time too.

Two months ago I opened my first ISA with Santander (called Flexi-ISA) - for the new tax year, should I get a new ISA account or just use the existing one?

I managed to put in the full 5,100 for 2010/2011.

    Many thanks in advance!

Check which issue number you have and whether the rate changes after say 12 months. The new Issue 3 pays at least 3.3% for 12 months.

Yes, you would get 3.1% on the full balance in your ISA, provided that the balance is £20k or more. :j
