So what if the bonus is not variable? They could reduce the basic rate to 0% and then pay you 1.4%, and you could do nothing but (a) walk away and have just earned 2% or (b) stay and just earn 1.4% plus a bit of time at 3.4%.

Why do people buy accounts with such dubious bonuses?

But it is also the case for virtually all variable cash ISA, isn't it? And since there is no penalty for transferring out, then, as you say, you can always walk away and transfer to a better deal.

*EDIT* ok, I see what you mean.... well, I guess I take the risk
  • Thrifty Girl:

ive just seen this today and on the website it says:
DUE TO HIGH DEMAND WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU APPLY IN BRANCH OR VIA THE POSTAL APPLICATION BELOW.
WEB APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED UP TO 5 DAYS FOLLOWING ANY WITHDRAWAL OF THE OFFER.

May be if i post this tommorrow it will be accepted?

I think it's worth a try as there's not really anything else that comes close for transfers. I sent mine recorded delivery just to make sure it gets there. I can see a few forms going 'missing' with this level of demand.

Yes, I'm hoping this internet rule actually means postal applications. I will post if I hear anything.

Launching April 19. Clydesdale and Yorkshire bank will have a new (branch only) 3 year ISA @ 3.90%. Transfers in are allowed.

    Details here: https://www.emoneyfacts.co.uk/news/savings-news.aspx?newsarticleid=194744

    Website details here: http://www.ybonline.co.uk/personal/savings/tax-efficient-savings/cash-isa-fixed-rate-bond/cash-isa-fixed-rate-bond

Edit: Assuming my calculations are correct, the NR 3 year Stepped ISA (3.5%, 4%, 4.5%) still beats this with an average of 4% over the term so I wont have to drive half way up the country to my local Yorkshire Bank branch to open one :)

From reading the blurb on your link KTF, surely it states transfers in are NOT allowed?

Clydesdale Cash ISA Fixed Rate Bond - Web Applications will be accepted up to 5 days following any withdrawal of the offer

Just a quick note for those who were wondering if downloading the transfer form and posting it would be successful.

I posted mine on the 13th April – the day it was withdrawn and have received a letter today “ to assure me” that the ISA is “secured” and I will receive confirmation within 14 days to confirm the account is opened.

Reckon others will be receiving their letter soon.
