I think that was the point DealSeaker11 was making. Non-ISA savings will be more heavily taxed, so an attractive ISA rate becomes even more attractive in comparison.

West Brom BS
What I meant was 5.25% tax free is a great alternative to putting money into savings accounts that will be taxed an additional 2% from 2027.

Precisely that’s what I’m saying

I'm trying to decide whether to go with West Bromwich (calculator suggests it's worth ditching my previous 5 year cash ISA for this) or hold out to see if this is start of more competitive rates.

West Brom
Maybe explore the possibility of making an application now and taking advantage of the 14-day cooling period to see if a better offer comes out in the next 2 weeks? Although I’m not sure if you’ll need to initiate the transfer at the point of opening the account with West Brom.

Unlike Nationwide, you don't need to deposit any money when you open the ISA account. I am new to West Brom, when I open their ISA account, I have to upload the ID document and wait for their approval, before I can put any money in the account.

I might fix for 1 year, and only for a part of my ISA savings but five seems way to long for my liking

The highest rate for a 1yr fixed ISA over the last ten years was 5.85%.
The B of E are more worried about the mortgagor than the saver.
