Re: Lose Weight 4

A bit of generalising here, but:
I regularly visit France, and used to wonder why there are so few overweight people there compared to here in the UK, despite the fact that the French diet consists of so much meat, cheese, Pate and alcohol !
Of course the answer might be genetic, or it might be that the French love their home food so much that they're not as willing to participate in the invading american fast-food culture.
But then my wife (who was born in France) pointed out that the French tend to eat their main meal at lunchtime, and have something light in the evening. whereas we tend to eat a big, stodgy meal in the evening, just before vegging out in front of the telly and going to bed.
So I tried it: I switched my main meal for my lunch, and began eating a sandwich or salad in the evening, and a larger (but sensible) meal at lunchtime (it helps that I have access to a microwave and kitchen at work). And guess what? slowly but surely, I've lost weight, and I'm still losing it!
I've never spoken to a dietitian about this. It would be great to know if this is just coincidence, or if there would be some scientific confirmation of whether this theory works out. I would like to try the next stage: A large, hearty breakfast, sandwich at lunchtime, and a bowl of cereal in the evening. But of course like most people, I just dont get time to cook up a breakfast in the mornings!
Any thoughts on my madcap theory?Mr Lewis saved my life.0 -
I think this theory makes sense rcman. I've also noticed that, when I eat a main meal at lunchtime and a light meal in the evening, I tend to lose weight more easily.
Food is not so easily digested at night and fat just tends to "lie" there rather than shift through activity/exercise.
It's a shame it's difficult for some of us to put this into practise as we're stuck in the routine of having to prepare a main meal at night and/or do not have the facilities at work to eat a proper meal at lunchtime.
Perhaps it's worth trying harder to try out this theory ... the results could be interesting.

rcman is right: breakfast like a king, lunch like a lord and tea like a pauper was the old saying, I believe (or something like that).Signature removed for peace of mind0

IRcmac, i believe your theory to be correct. I have even suggested it on this thread .... many threads back.
Maxi Breakfast, Midi Lunch and a Mini Dinner .... works really well. Just finding the time for a Mxi Breakfast isn't easy  But I will try it again over the easter holidays and let you all know how I get on;)I can say whatever I like here ... 'cos no one can see me .. ner ner ner ner ner !!!....How do you know I ain't sitting here butt naked?!?!I thunk I've made you think for a minute!:j :rotfl: :j0 -
I think I have lost the plot. Put on another pound this week. Trying to make myself eat in the evening is becoming a big problem. I am fed up of waking up every day thinking Am I going to geet thru the day any better today. I am going away for the weekend so maybe I will feel a bit better next week. The password for SW this week is BUNNY.0

Hey Linda, hope you are having/had a lovely weekend away. I'm hoping that salads in the evening when the warmer nights come in are going to be a nice light alternative to the hot food that I rely on in the colder months. Have you tried something very light, like a poached egg on a slice of toast or a little scrambled egg? It doesn't say anywhere that you have to have a huge massive meal for tea if you don't feel like it. As for the pound going back on, it was just not ready to say goodbye to you I guess and came back for a short visit. I know you'll send it packing again soon *hugs* & thank you for the password.
Way to go elona! I'm sure you will keep it off as long as the Easter Bunny didn't leave anything for you this year.... My boyfriend was fretting as he hadn't bought me anything for Easter and I was like 'no, please don't either or I'll have to eat it!' If the Easter Bunny paid a visit and left an egg or other such chocolatey delight *drools over the keyboard slightly* then just make it last and it will minimise any impact on your weight loss(but with chocolate saying that is sometimes so much easier than making it last!)
I got weighed yesterday and lost 2 pounds so I'm very happy with myself this weekend. I even saved some sins so I could have a couple of mexican fajitas last night. Not a whiff of chocolate around here this Easter (unless you count the 2 small eggs waiting to be dropped off with my nephews) so I'm in quite a temptation free zone - happily!
Hope everyone else did well this week, Summer is a coming and nothing we can do will slow it down. Shorts are tapping on the wardrobe doors wanting to be let out, I just they fit me - but I'll put that trauma off for another few weeks yet!Sad because you don't know what to do? Comping question? Take a look in the Comping Guide to find out0 -
Thanks for the SW password again
Good luck with the shorts VelvetGlove I'm sure you'll be fine.....
I'm afraid I've eaten too much this weekend - must be good the rest of the week before weigh in on Friday :eek:0 -
Hi all
I had started a thread on slimming in another forum then was told that there is one here going for one year or so, and here I am! Need to lose at least 3-4 st but starting by thinking 1 and 1/2 st. which is 10% of my weight.
Great to see so many successes already! I shall become a frequent visitor I hope.
What do you do with the Slimming World password?
