  • All I had to send them was the order confirmation showing the deposit I paid. They also asked how did I try and get in touch with the company.
    All straight forward really.
  • I managed to speak to Paul Thorley last week regarding the log book for a Focus I picked up in March. He could not find the log book but told me it had probably been registered with a third party who "introduced" them to the main dealer! He was very vague and would not tell me who this third party was. I have contacted the main dealer, Vospers in Exeter, who told me my car had been registered to a fleet car buyer named Legacy, but I can't locate any info. about them. However, they told me that they too had ceased trading so we had no way of tracing the log book. The whole thing gets murkier and murkier.

I think the biggest problem here is for people like me who will be second owner on the log book and all the potential problems which might arise. It should be quite easy for people to get deposits back if paid by credit card. Has anyone who has become second owner tried to rectify this with the DVLA or anywhere else, and did you have any success?

What I am thinking of doing is giving all the details both to Which? magazine and to the DVLA, and ask them to strike off the first "keeper" as this was done so obviously fraudulently and illegally. Which? magazine because through their regular recommendations of deals with Autofinders, they have as good as endorsed the company as being ok. This was the biggest selling point for me in deciding to place an order with them.

The more people that do this, the more chance of success I would think. Has anyone got any better ideas?

Yes apply for the registration certificate from DVLA.

  • Thanks. Already been in touch with DVLA and had to submit V62 to re register to myself. They confirmed I would be second registered keeper, but would not divulge who the car was first registered to.

So what's happened to the new company they've set up? Any way that they can be prevented from just continuing with the same game under a different name?

Apparently its one of the Autofinders ex employees who have set up this company and not the Autofinders old directors. He has taken all the contacts for sourcing new cars and has started up the new company.

Selling a new car, but not registering it in the name of the person buying it as the first keeper has recently being deemed illegal.

I wonder if this outfit have been caught up with this situation?

Its why the advice has always been to only buy from brokers who introduce you to the main dealer and not ones who source a car, buy it in a fleet name, then transfer the V5c to you a few months later.
