  • Hello All!

What lovely messages!! I didn't expect them at all, am touched :oI'm sorry I've been so rubbish of late - have been having a very hard time in the new job :( It is a lot more pressure than I had expected and I've not been coping very well with it. I've had to work several weekends and lots of evenings - worked til 3am the other morning(!) DH has been brilliant helping around the house though and listening to me whinge :rotfl:Finally things are a bit quieter so I should get chance to catch up on everyones diaries :D
On the plus side I've been very MSE as not had chance to do anything that would involve spending money! I think my signature is due an update too.
    So, what have I missed...?

You can find the snowball calculator at

Also, I think you will not be able to qualify for free eye tests/glasses. The reason being as you live with a partner who works full time (presumably) you will only be eligible for contribution based JSA for 26 weeks (if you have paid enough national insurance over the past 2 years). You need JSA income based to qualify for the free tests....

Please someone correct me if i'm wrong....

That's not right. If you are low income (as opposed to a non working family) you should be able to get an NHS exemption card. A few years ago there was just the one scheme, but now there are various ones, including for low income households:

    :hello:All!
....Still undecided re mini break. My other concern about Paris is the language barrier. I remember we got by last time on a few very badly pronounced words and lots of pointing :rotfl: Slowly, can you parlez vous francais? I wish I could! We've decided we are going to go somewhere but just not sure where yet. The options at the moment are:

    1. Edinburgh - which I don't know a great deal about as have never been....
    :)

Edinburgh is lovely. I wouldn't bother with the expensive hotels though, including the travelodge in the old town. there's one further up the A701, going south, just near Cameron Toll, that is very nice and has parking. And only 5 minutes bus ride from the old city. If you join their website, they send you really good specials and notices of their sales from time to time. I took the family down to Basildon (yes, I know, odd choice! But in the same complex is a fantastic Chinese restaurant with buffet. Jimmy Cheungs is decidedly second best compared to that place) for new year one year for the grand sum of £9 a night accommodation.

One good thing about here is that we don't really do bad weather, well, not compared to the west coast. The rain all falls before it gets to us.

For having a chilling out holiday though, I'd rather go to Oban than Edinburgh. That is a really great place for a holiday. Goodness, I have eaten such nice food there! (Edinburgh is hit and miss on that score!) Scotland and holidays definitely go together. Have had very nice holidays on Skye and at Stranraer /Port Patrick too.
  • Hey SCP. Yey - you're back. Sorry to hear you've been under the cosh at work. That can't be funny.

Not missed much from MM land. We're back into school routines and work is busy (nothing like yours though). Being very MSE over here at MM Towers. Just ordered a DVD for £2.90 from Amazon so we can have a film night with the kids as a treat. Homemade popcorn and hot chocolate with mini marshmallows!!!

nice to have you back SCP!

  • Thanks all :) Aamberle you've hit the nail on the head - it is totally expected that you work whatever hours are necessary to complete! Hey we might work at the same place ;) Slowly - I'm in financial services *yawns*

MM - homemade popcorn and hot chococlate sounds AMAZING right now, especially as its getting colder!! Love movie nights.

So I finally found time to make the banana and walnut cake that badger posted the recipe for!! Our oven is a bit tempermental and I managed to burn the top but it still tastes yum. Hurrah!

Not been hugely MSE this week. Payday next week and must try harder! Slapped wrists for me and DH :o

    Hope everyone is well
