Another uneventful day but managed a NSD so that's good!! Honestly, I don't know about you guys but I am not getting the pleasure out of pointless spending that I used to. I reckon I've spent very little on non essentials this month and that has been things like birthday cards and postage, dog treats, parking, fish&chips etc. It's nice to see the changes. Even DM commented she didn't recognise me anymore. I'll take that as a compliment
I feel  now when I hear people talking about buying £20k cars on finance and the like. I know its upto them but I also know we'll never be like we were before again and I'm glad.
So anyway - talking of non essential spending, my birthday is coming up and DH thinks we should have a short break in Paris to celebrate. I am not entirely convinced  I think it's a good idea to plan treats but we had a look at hotels and if trip advisor is to be believed they are all horrendously overpriced (not to mention the poor service, noise and lack of space).
Has anyone else been abroad whilst on their journey? Don't get me wrong obviously I'd love to go but It just seems so extravagant for where we are right now and I feel guilty. I suppose I want someone to say "oh go on you deserve it" but that's not the right attitude really. It wouldn't be on the cc but it's still all money that could go towards debt. I'm going to look into cheap break alternatives. Really the main thing is getting to spend some quality time together without the pressure of everyday life and debt isn't it?We don't have to go to France to manage that

Hey SCP. Erm. Paris. Eye wateringly expensive I hear. My folks went a year or so ago and spent £18.00 on two coffees with two pastries!!
I guess you could take a thermos and buy a baguette from a boulangerie and do it that way - not as classy but certainly much cheaper.
Then you could do Paris using the metro and good old shanks pony and still get the feel of the place. I haven't got a scooby how much the hotels are though. That'd be the biggest expense I guess.
You do have to have some treats on your debt free mission but they don't need to scupper your journey. As a student I once went with a friend to Bologne. Caught the Dover - Calais ferry and then just drove down. Dirt cheap. You wouldn't want to stay where we stayed but I'm sure the nicer places would be way cheaper than Paris.
I like that your DH is thinking romantic though. Bless.
MM

 indeed! Hey they should've taken mr MM and his costa machine  I remember we went years and years ago and paid well over £150 a night for a room the size of a toilet cubicle. Was very bad but apparently all the hotels are like it. Your road trip sounds like fun! I wouldn't be brave enough to drive abroad but could probably convince DHHmmm...

Sat and read '3Dogs' diary on here last night after seeing it mentioned in another thread - DH kept asking what the hell I was reading as I blubbed behind the laptop. So so very sad
Can't imagine what that lady has been through. Puts things into perspective no end.

Ooh, I love Paris! Been with my parents and would jump at the chance of DH offering to take me!
It can be done cheaper, especially if you buy lunch and stuff at local bakeries, not sitting down to eat
Ooh, I'd go againhave a good day

Morning
DH left early for work ( or so he says - I reckon he has left early with his Costa machine to meet the boys and plan their next MS purchase - which by the sounds of it could be abroad, obviously will be MSE though):rotfl:
Anyway hope you have a good day - well done on the running too - I wish I had the energy x2012 The year I started dealing with my debts.

:hello:All!
Just noticed your sig. Aamberle - have you updated again?! It's looking very low :T Hope your DH didn't come back with any MSE purchases today?
Hey Sista! I've not seen Barney's mums diary but will have to have a look now. The stories are really inspiring, you're right - it's amazing what you can cope with when you have to.
So, another blah day here. Debt busting continues to be on hold. I've got a wardrobe full of lovely cocktail dresses from my 'previous life' that I keep meaning to ebay but haven't gotten around to so must do that. Gutting because I'll get next to nothing compared to what I paid but I don't go anywhere to wear them anymore!!!
Still undecided re mini break. My other concern about Paris is the language barrier. I remember we got by last time on a few very badly pronounced words and lots of pointing :rotfl: Slowly, can you parlez vous francais? I wish I could! We've decided we are going to go somewhere but just not sure where yet. The options at the moment are:
1. Edinburgh - which I don't know a great deal about as have never been
2. Paris - tres chic but overpriced
3. Lake District - lovely scenery and walks but potentially dare I say a bit boring maybe?
4. London - lots going on but nice to go somewhere new
God, I am addicted to trip advisor at the moment (as well as MSE of course)[STRIKE]£49,129[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£[/STRIKE][STRIKE]43,012 [/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£42,209[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£40,823[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£39,866[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]£25,960[/STRIKE]£21,338 _party_

Morning SCP - For my 10p's worth - I would go to the Lakes. I love it there! Very quiet but loads to see and do, and I always come back very relaxed.
Edinburgh would be my 2nd choice - Never been so would like to go.
London - Grew Up there, so love it but like you would want something different.
Pairs - lovely, but it is expensive and if it was me I would not relax as I would be worrying how much money we are spending! But hey thats just me...
Anyway whichever you choose i am sure you will have a blast xx2012 The year I started dealing with my debts.
