We have a similar issue in our small street but the problem is with a guy who lives nearby and runs a business from his house. His staff park their work vans either side of the entrance into our street. This is really annoying but even more so as he doesn't even live on our street, he lives opposite on the main road. The parked vans don't directly affect me as I live further down and have my own parking space, but it often prevents access for the dustbin lorry as there isn't enough room to get past them. I know we probably can't do anything about the parked vans but is there anyone we can complain to about the fact that we don't get our bins emptied because of this selfish so and so?

Speak to the council because if parking restricts a dustbin lorry it would also restrict a fire engine and they'll probably place double yellow lines there.

    I agree.

But I am a little confused by the OP as she goes on to say that the next door neighbour always makes sure she can park outside his drive, so is this really such a big problem?

It's not all the time but every couple of months there is a car for a week the current one for two weeks. Obviously they park in 'someones' space then they park in 'someone' else's space etc.

I only asked if anyone would say anything. Not expected a criticism into my personal situation and how I should be glad of what I have and how some people dont have that.

I sympathise with the OP, my problem is not with the neighbours but with the people who park in my road then trot down to the local station to go to work in London, this I do find inconsiderate, why can they not get a bus to the station if it's too far to walk.
I appreciate that it's a public road and I'm not entitled to a space but having to walk back and forwards the length of the road to unload my shopping is annoying, I recently had surgery and am unable to carry heavy loads for too far, my husband and I both work shifts and he can't always come with me to help.

We have a similar problem with the house opposite our's. They have two cars (well a car and a works van) and two parking spaces on their drive that are their's to use, but the van still parks on the road outside their house which makes it hard (and sometimes impossible) for DH to reverse out). Our road has two entrances but one has been permanently closed. When the other part of the road was open it was easier for us to get out but now we have to go the other way, sometimes it is extremely difficult.

We haven't said anything though because there must be a reason for him to park there. Why else would you park on the road when you have a double driveway?

No I wouldn't you don't have any right to say anything. You chose to buy a house with no off road car parking. As long is the car is taxed, insured etc it has every right to park there.
I'm never offended by debate & opinions. As a wise man called Voltaire once said, "I disagree with what you say, but will defend until death your right to say it."

If you sold the car you wouldn't have issues parking it.

On another note i have learnt to drive and i do work however i don't have a car. It is not my choice, i just can't afford to waste money on one. That comment really infuriated me.

  • I would just let it go. You're not going to there forever so there's no point in risking falling out with your neighbours. I've experienced a similar problem and it caused huge rows with (now ex) neighbours. It's one of those things that annoy the hell out of you and can really get you fired up but there's not a lot you can do. It's just not worth it in my opinion. Keep saving up and buy the house you're dreaming of (preferably with a drive :)).

She didn't buy the house - it's a council house. I'm afraid when you're after emergency housing, you can't be too choosy. If OP requested a house with drive, she'd likely have an awfully long wait.....

I'd only say something if I was happy for my neighbours to think I was an absolute fool.

No-one owns the space outside their house, no matter how entitled they feel they should be to be able to park there. Only numpties think they are
