Everybody is welcome who comes here to offer and/or receive support. Bullies get decluttered rather quickly , but everyone else can loiter and lurk and offload or celebrate as much as they like - people are not 'Stuff' to get in the way.
Thank you Kate, Brighton Belle and JoJo. :A I'm also a bit of a lurker, but get such inspiration and insight from this thread. I feel like I'm 'cheating' a bit by not posting much, but find the number of posts / people on here a bit overwhelming to respond to. And then I feel rude for not responding to everyone and just wittering on about me, so I don't post much
You are all so welcoming though, perhaps I should post more!

Hi there,
cake is a favourite subject of mineI have recently fallen in love with Nigella Lawson's birthday custard sponge - its so easy and is delicious!
If you're anything like me, you bake in pounds and ounces not metric, so apologies for the weights in grams - that was how I found the recipes and I'm no good at converting them, so just set the scales to grams instead of ounces.
I find her a bit pouty and annoying, but the cake recipes are great!

Cheers Ali!
They both sound scrummy - esp the custard one - I might go against my 'Nigella gets on my wick' feelings (we share more than a name! :rotfl: ) and do that one! I'll let you know!
And yes - lbs & oz all the way, but my magic scales do do both, thank goodness! DH is like me (old!) but DS uses grams. Very confusing when we're discussing recipes!

You mean THEY'VE got to be de-Richarded too???
I've got about 100 Albums (and a turntable!), none of which have been duplicated onto my CD collection, & only 1 of which I have downloaded. PLEASE tell me I don't have to get rid? (Although don't play them much at all).
No, not necessarily - but you do need to check them for deterioration (the vinyl begins to break down) and warping. they aren't indestructible, and a warped record doesn't do anything but take up space and make you sad when you finally try to play it.lostinrates wrote: »Priorities question.....continue shuffling junk this weekend, or paint walls before builders put radiators on, for ease?
Paint walls. The junk will be there for shuffling later, the builders will hopefully be going home after fitting the rads.

Yes, yes you should.
The idiot cat has attempted to murder the old girl cat again. And has stuck a claw or a tooth through her everlasting cyst on her neck again. So she's skulking around leaking serum everywhere - OK, it take the pressure of the damn cyst away and it was due to be drained again at the vet this Friday morning, but it would be nice if it wasn't doing it over my leg.
There are still crashing noises coming from the kitchen. Idiot cat is on one tonight. He'll be on my left boot if he doesn't stop soon :cool:I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -
Well done on the coat decluttering :T I have a couple of tops like that which have survived every clear out for the last 4 years. They are tops for the aspirational, skinny me
. This time they are going.....
I'd take old pans to the tip, then you know that they are not going to be unwittingly sold on by a charity shop or anything, which could be dodgy if the coating is coming off .
The more important question is - do you have beautiful new pans to replace them?
Good point, the tip it is. Yes, I bought some new pans with the vouchers I got when I left my last company
Aspirational skinny jeans in the charity shop box - I am losing weight but my thighs are never gonna fit into them!
Jojo, why do cats pick the most awkward time to have a mad 5 minutes? Ususally 3am and involving a live mouse in this house :cool:0 -
Cheers Ali!

If you aren't going down a "traditional" birthday cake route, Nigella (again) has some 'licious chocolate brownies in her "domestic goddess" book. She piles them on a plate and puts candles all over. It is very effective.
Not doing a lot of dericharding at the mo. Not sure what happened to "put 3 things away, throw 3 things away a day" I'd set myself. Need to get back to it. Even if it's only 3 bits of paper.I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -

If you post something about yourself instead, that's fine, it's what I often do too (so I hope it is fine) if there is too much to answer or acknowledge, as it may well be helping a lurker find a key phrase that helps them (my key-phrase was "churning" from the Extreme Hoarders TV programme, my churning is much more productive now)
My BF(ex) and I had an agreement that is we'd had a niggle and then went to work, we wouldn't resort to phone silence as it would be difficult to break, we just sent texts saying "staying in touch" or "not ignoring you" - you could do similar with this thread, just post something, it doesn't have to be positive - I try to share the positives but when I am struggling I post that too, otherwise I am sure you'll all think I am living in a perfect home by now - I'm not, I found some new piles yesterday, in plain sight on a table but been there yonks even though my corners are now clear!
Cake - have had quite a lot of Nigella Guiness cake lately - lovely moist stuff for adults! Cake is losing its power over me now my weight is stabilising but I still enjoy the Guiness cakeYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -
So far I've gone through the bottom of my wardrobe and found clothes I've not worn for a while so they've been put in a bag for charity.
Got rid of a broken carpet cleaner (I can now put my new one where the old one was!) and old lava lamp on freecycle.
Friday a local charity is coming to collect a freezer that has been sat in my shed since I moved house 18 months ago, yes I could have sold it but I don't have the patience with people coming round etc. They are also collecting a book case, desk and computer chair that I have absolutely no use for, collecting dust and taking up precious space.
I'm also going through my books and putting them on green metropolis if I no longer want them or unlikely to read them again
Well hi :wave:that's a really inspiring post, welcome along, I envy you the furniture collection (but don't watch it go into the van!) and the space it will free up - it's good to know we are not just talking into the ether and there are lurkers who get on with it - I am off to look up the green metropolis you mention!
I sometimes stop and think "what have i become" and want to make sure I like the answerYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0 -
Hi All
Last weekend...53 items to charity shop plus 51 textiles.
I feel the need to count them out as i am a bit..(no 'a lot' )of a churning queen and things just by magic churn round my house. I have no problem with out and out dross, in the bin, no trouble but the nearly new/maybe it could come in handy/could i alter it kind of stuff creates the churning.Aspirational ideas about car booting and ebaying have for me made this worse. So i try and make myself make a decision every day on this type of stuff about 5 items a day/ a charity bag a week.
My DS17 has been clearing out. He lost his NI card and cant apply for any jobs on line without it.I thought he was a fellow hoarder so have always been happy to store favourites of his in the loft  We decided to strip down his room everything went to spare room and made a decision about everything that went back in. We found the card but i also realise I am the true hoarder of the house he has no problem making decisons his mess is lazy teenage mess rubbish bins overflowing etc..
So pressure feels like it is really on..So if you ger random posts from me like today 40 items to charity shop. Tis me feeling i need to be accountable because you are all my partners in this now .0 -
..re your mad cat jo jo
Our current cat is so bad , probably the worst behaviour wise we have had.
Decided to stop feeding her..not literally:rotfl:
Bought her one of those puzzle feeders that she has to work to get her food out ...stopped the night time pranks (carpet scratching, paddling against the doors, prowling in cupboards drawers etc) that got me up throughout night..also keeps the naughty tortie brain busy. Word of warning tho my other cat who's a good boy (no favouritism you understand) is completely bemused by it just walks around it one way then the other then looks to me for help. Have to feed him normally otherwise he would starve .
Somebody gave me a tip before you invest in the feeder wrap small amount dried food in greeseproof paper parcels to see if your cat is up for the challenge and will stick with it ..mine was so i invested in the feeder.
Just a thought..0
