  • I have ordered 2 Disney DVDs this morning for DD for christmas as the BOGOF offer was ending soon, but I will put those away for christmas.
She doesn't really need any more DVDs, but I couldn't help myself :o. I feel a little guilty, but I know she will enjoy them.

I am taking part in the grocery challenge this month, so I will be using up some of my "stockpile" and hopefully emptying the cupboards before stocking up for christmas. (Is it wrong that I look forward to the stocking up after using the freezer and cupboards contents?)

Took two carrier bags full of books to charity shop this morning.

DD helped me carry them and it is good she is moving better after getting home from hospital. We saw the consultant and her kidneys have not been permanently damaged by the blood clots and she does not need dialysis so very relieved. She is still getting daily injections for blood clots so trying to encourage her to get lots of fluid and home cooked food with gentle exercise to build her up.

Making chicken curry tonight to use up all the veg in fridge and maybe also some soup. Made DH stewed apples but they caught and saucepan looks badly burnt. Deciding whether or not to throw it out as it is annoying me and not doing a good job anymore.

    Hug to all

Wooligan 2 squares for smoky - 3 squares for HTA
    Preemie hats - 2.
  • Great news there elona, you must all be very relieved (has anyone looked into whether she would benefit from a flu jab this year?)

PS for anyone thinking of clothes recycling - if taking a small quantity its worth bearing in mind that the scales round down to the nearest kilo - so e hava quick check on bathroom scales beforehand

eg if taking 1.9 kilo you will only get 50p/60p, not £1/£1.20
if taking 100.9 kilo you will "only" £50, (if my calc is correct) not £50.50 so not being paid for the 0.9 wont matter so much
You never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow
  • Met a friend for a (soft) drink in the pub this lunch - it was really nice getting away from the boring stuff - even if she has RA as well, so it was a bit of talking shop! :)

    Anyhow, went into the shops as I was there and ended up getting;

    A pair of boots

Five pairs of lovely socks (cue a sock flinging session - anything that doesn't stay perfectly in position or has a hole in that I haven't already flung is going). They are also all girly socks, so nobody  will be stealing them because he can't be bothered to get his own out of his drawer!

    A couple of hair accessories.

A warm hat. Well, actually two, but one can be for him. After he got his head and face pelt shorn a fortnight ago :D, he might begin to feel the cold a bit this weekend. And I did insist he did it, so I kinda feel a little responsible for his chilly ears.

    A reduced to clear sandwich.

Some padded insoles, a pedicure brush, a compact mirror and quick drying nail varnish spray.

    Oh. Yeah.

I nearly forgot. a new lipstick, two eyeliners, a nail varnish - and a new ear piecing.

I really must invest in a set of leg irons :D:D:D

  • Hi chaps

Just caught up after a few days off and it was such a pleasure. I think that's what makes me keep coming back to the MSE threads. I keep mentioning this thread to DH and though I can see his eyes glazing over sometimes, I think he understands why I like it.

On the decluttering front, I bought another pair of 'old' jeans for a long muddy walk I've been doing and had the discipline to throw away a pair of current 'old' jeans. Thanks chaps. I've taken in two more jam jars but managed to recycle one I emptied this week. I think one of the best bits of advice I've seen on this thread was to look for 'twins'. I've now got to decide which sleeping bag to get rid of, though, as we have got a new one in (bought in the sale, of course), so that's a trip into the upstairs cupboard tomorrow. I might have to declutter some more sheets while I'm in there. Wish me luck.

Keep it up! It's really helping and I'm very grateful.
  • Just blitzkreiged the makeup and nail varnishes. Everything that wasn't a 'perfect' colour, texture or absolute joy to use has been flung. I still found lipsticks that had that distinctive elderly auntie smell about them - so they went, too, as did several mascaras, mini creams and suchlike that were probably over the 18-24 month lifespans they were labelled with.

There will be other bits hanging around, but that's already cleared half the top of the dressing table, putting the jewellery in a little drawer did another 30% of it, so there's just a few things left to deal with in here.

There are, admittedly, a few more bits in the spare room, but they can be done another day, as I am really tired.

But, for a handful of make up coming in, a carrier bag (yes, really) of it has gone out. So I can feel smug instead of guilty :D

I sometimes stop and think "what have i become" and want to make sure I like the answer

    Yes!:j

And that, I think, is the key to so many things: self respect, hoarding, our relationships with others. It all boils down to "do I like me?" and "Do I like where I'm going?".

"Do I like where I'm going?"

Thank you for that, PipneyJane - I was just thinking yesterday that for the first time in 25-odd years (since DS1, in fact) I'm beginning to get a clear sense of where I want to be & how I'm going to get there. I've felt bogged down for so long, like a bird with its feet stuck in the mud - wings flapping madly, going nowhere! And I'm sure that the clutter & mess had a lot to do with that.

Carrying on here; two more car loads of stuff went to the tip yesterday, and only stuff that's immediately saleable came back. Half a car-load should have gone to a charity shop but the main road was closed due to an accident so we spent an hour in a traffic jam instead, then turned round & came home. Continuing today; the jumble collector is coming round this afternoon so I'd better have a car-load ready for her too!

The understair area didn't turn into a larder, in the end, because DD1 quite rightly pointed out that there's actually plenty of storage in our 12' x 15' kitchen; it's just hopelessly badly organised at the moment. So I've invested in some of those little shelf-organisers from Lakeland (the cupboards are big & the shelves are so deep that stuff gets lost at the back) & will tackle those later. In the meantime the understair area has gone from this:

    to this:
