Everybody is welcome who comes here to offer and/or receive support. Bullies get decluttered rather quickly , but everyone else can loiter and lurk and offload or celebrate as much as they like - people are not 'Stuff' to get in the way.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

You mean THEY'VE got to be de-Richarded too???
I've got about 100 Albums (and a turntable!), none of which have been duplicated onto my CD collection, & only 1 of which I have downloaded. PLEASE tell me I don't have to get rid? (Although don't play them much at all).
Moving on..... 2 bags of clothing into the Air Ambulance collection skip (I can't face the hassle of Car Booting etc - my Sundays are too precious!).
A bit of a turf out & consolidation in the Bathroom cabinet.
And now DH has decided he's re-decorating the Hall/Stairs/Landing so there's carp everywhere, all covered in a manky old dust sheet shedding bits everywhere (not to mention the little paint marks that amazingly & miraculously materialise!)
It's my Mum's 80th on Saturday and I've been volunteered to do the cake? Any ideas?? I've got Friday off!
Onward & upward folks!:mad: :j:D:beer::eek::A:p:rotfl::cool::):(:T0 -
Priorities question.....continue shuffling junk this weekend, or paint walls before builders put radiators on, for ease?0

Hi there,
cake is a favourite subject of mineI have recently fallen in love with Nigella Lawson's birthday custard sponge - its so easy and is delicious!
The recipe is here.... http://www.nigella.com/recipes/view/best-birthday-cake-118
I don't know how many you are catering for, but the quantities above are for 2 8 inch round cakes, and as it sinks quite a bit, it makes quite a small cake.
What I do is double the quantities and use two round 9 inch cake tins and the mixture fills them more too, so you get a much bigger cake. White chocolate butter cream to fill the middle and put on the top and some chocolates / sweets to decorate are always good.
To make white chocolate buttercream, cream together 140g of butter with 140g icing sugar, then add 70g melted white chocolate. To be honest, I think you'd need to double those quantities if you were doing a big 9 inch round cake as above.
If you're anything like me, you bake in pounds and ounces not metric, so apologies for the weights in grams - that was how I found the recipes and I'm no good at converting them, so just set the scales to grams instead of ounces.
Another suggestion is the Nigella Lawson traditional chocolate cake recipe which has sour cream in it. It is so delicious! http://www.nigella.com/recipes/view/old-fashioned-chocolate-cake-119
Can you tell I've just bought her 'Feast' book?:D
I find her a bit pouty and annoying, but the cake recipes are great!

Just tidied the downstairs hallway and found a charity shop bag I started a few weeks ago... which then got covered in clutter!
Still, have added a few more items to it now (including a jacket I couldn't bear to part with a few years ago which has been buried on the coat stand and not been worn in ages - obviously don't like it that much!)
Quick question - I need to chuck our old saucepans as the coating is coming off and worried it is getting into the food. What's the best place to get rid - metal recycling at the tip?0 -

Paint walls.
The annoyance of seeing down the back of the radiators where the wallpaper wasn't stripped off / redecorated when we 'did' the house gets me every day when I'm draping washing on them! Not Buying It 20150 -

Well done on the coat decluttering :T I have a couple of tops like that which have survived every clear out for the last 4 years. They are tops for the aspirational, skinny me. This time they are going.....
I'd take old pans to the tip, then you know that they are not going to be unwittingly sold on by a charity shop or anything, which could be dodgy if the coating is coming off .
The more important question is - do you have beautiful new pans to replace them? Not Buying It 20150 -
Hi all
Just coming out of lurkdom to thank you for inspiring me to have a look at my house (and myself) to see what I have is just taking up space and that I don't use or I've put something aside thinking 'I'll do so and so with that' and never do!
So far I've gone through the bottom of my wardrobe and found clothes I've not worn for a while so they've been put in a bag for charity.
Got rid of a broken carpet cleaner (I can now put my new one where the old one was!) and old lava lamp on freecycle.
Friday a local charity is coming to collect a freezer that has been sat in my shed since I moved house 18 months ago, yes I could have sold it but I don't have the patience with people coming round etc. They are also collecting a book case, desk and computer chair that I have absolutely no use for, collecting dust and taking up precious space.
My spare room is my pit of despair but I need to wait until my lounge has been decorated (items from lounge are in the pit) before I tackle that head on.
I'm also going through my books and putting them on green metropolis if I no longer want them or unlikely to read them again.
Thanks again all for your inspiring posts x0
