the term "statutory rape" is used in some legal jurisdictions to refer to sexual activities in which one person is below the age required to legally consent to the behavior. Whilst in the uk the legal age is 16, in the us it is not, hence the term used.

I can't even bring myself to comment on the rest of your post.

Edit, i have to apologise to the rest of the posters as my orignal post has disrupted the thread. I should have known better. I am so sorry.

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Phew....

    Are we gathering clutter here?

Time to move on fellow dericharders? :)

I declutterer my toiletries a couple of years ago on the health and beauty 'no more buying toiletries thread' but noticed a couple of things that were past their best and felt no pang getting rid of them at all. It felt....normal.

I have to bish ALL my mascaras (i use lots of different ones for different things) as I am having eye problems (blephitis I think, but will be careful just in case and mention it when I am back at eye clinic when I get called back in (should have been by now, so not sure what is happening there). I am dithering because I am really, really bad at buying mascara, and it's so much money in the bin, but eyes are too precious to risk so will get on with that tomorrow....all of them (gulp). I want a coloured one but they never have any I like in stock when I check, so will probably just get black for winter. Grrr.

Just saw the perfume boxes I had bished again have been retreived again by dh. Oh dear.

Tear them up and bish them for the last time. He WILL get the hint eventually.

lir, I used to love a deep maroon mascara that was made for redheads, colour was called russe, I am thinking of badgerin' the "just for redheads" site I subscribe to to try and get it reintroduced - it was so much kinder than even browny/black

Byatt, hi, how are you today, I'll PM you

I was thinking about something while I was finishing up DS's room and moving onto the plans for DD. What would it be like if I (or you) suddenly got a room of your own? As in if a whole new room magically grew off the side of your house, freshly decorated/carpet/heating and all the rest and someone said "This is just for you so what do you want to put in there?"

I was thinking it might be a useful mental decluttering exercise for these of us who live amid a sea of family posessions and who don't have any sort of private space, not even their bedroom. My space seems to consist of a couple of tiny corners of this big house, there's absolutely nowhere I can go to pull up the drawbridge and say This Is Mine Go Away. I would like a room of my own where nobody came unless invited, and which I could arrange any way I liked.

So if you had such a thing what would you put in there? I'd have all my hobby stuff, good workspace and shelving, a sofa which was actually comfortable for me, internet, big desk, nice view, french windows out to the garden, DVD/satellite/TV. And a cat flap in the door so that I wouldn't have to keep opening it for the furry people!
    Val.

I think this thread has helped me immensely as I've had a real problem for years now
I don't know if enjoy is the right word but I do enjoy reading your posts about why you all hoard IYKWIM it helps me understand more about why we all, myself including feel that need for a safety net/hoard.
I usually grind to a halt as soon as I can see a bit of floor lol but I'm still going!!

Byatt thankyou for sharing some of your more painful memories you really inspire me to keep on keeping on just wanted you to know that.I always follow your ups and downs in life and while I may not always have time to comment I'm always behind you X *not in a stalkerish I'm behind you kind of way..you know what I mean* :D

Blossom I'm proud of you attacking that paperwork..bane of my life it is I have utmost sympathy!! X

JoJo hope you're feeling a little better now X

I'm grinding to a halt today as
    1/knackered :p
2/OH has his day off and nothing ever gets done!

but will carry on tomorrow..I admit I'm losing momentum a bit now as I don't quite know what to do next as most of the clutter is out now it's just a case of general tidying and a really deep clean.Still need to sort my bedroom but theres stuff I need left out and its bugging me..

Have a great day all XXX
  • I'd probably just have it full of cats, but fantasy ones who didn't need litter trays, or smelly cat food LOL

But do you know what, the idea you have conjoured up is initially quite frightening to me, and I heard John Lennon's "Imagine there's no heaven" in my head; I'll have to work on it, as it's probably so ingrained to have inherited stuff that I don't really know my own taste - yet!

    Great question!

As is evident I'm quite a long way past the needing to clear out stage, have dealt with the mental issues and am maintaining the space I want. When things were a mess what I wanted wasn't a beautiful room filled with roses an Eames lounger and handsome men it was just the simple stuff like not having to wash up before I could cook, being able to get into bed without moving a ton of stuff, being able to have someone stay in the spare room rather than it just housing junk and musty smelling clothes.

It wasn't until we moved here that I could really start to have the things I wanted as I wanted them. I have an alcove in my bedroom with a floorstanding mirror and my Robin Day chair. I know not that many people would be excited to have a polypropylene chair in their room but there you go! That is my chair and it's the first thing I see when I wake up and the simple shape and lovely whiteness of it makes me smile. It kind of sets the tone for how I want everything to be. Does that sound bonkers?

I also like to have my pantry just as I like it, it's not a beautiful Martha Stewart, perfect housewife pantry. It's wonky and narrow and full of things that shouldn't really live in a pantry but I love it.

Hope everyone is feeling chipper today and we can forget about any negative things that might have tried to derail us yesterday.

Yes. A Troll. However, his post has been deRicharded. :T

I tackled the "spice drawer" on the weekend. Found several small packets of things like cinnamon, that I've added to the large Douwe Egbert jars I normally use for storing things like that. Have no idea where the small packets came from (I buy my main spices by the half-kilo bag). Apparently, if you leave a bottle of ground chili alone in the dark, it'll clone itself for company.:rotfl:

When the big chili jar gets a bit emptier, I'll have another go. I still have to find space for the dozen or so jars of herbs and spices we were given when DH's mate moved to Sweden at the start of the month. I'm sure there's room in the drawer now, it's just a case of wriggling them in.
