jay - she was perfectly aware of the implications, she's a very bright girl! I'm sure if she felt a calling for any of those professions you mentioned, she'd have had second thoughts, but she didn't:)0

thanks Kimberley, maybe things really are changing and not before time
Come to think of it, I'm sure some of the teachers at her school had tatts, I know some of them loved hers anyway0 -

the teacher has been a key player in turning around a failing secondary school and is a huge role model to some of the children and has helped keep them in education, I am just so happy someone gave him a chance, he was a very lost person for a long time but has found his calling and is amazing.Shut up woman get on my horse!!!0 -

Did you talk to her about the potential effects? The above reads as if you assumed she knew about them.
Fair enough, and tattoos can be removed (expensive and painful but very possible), facial piercings allowed to heal up. I still wouldn't allow my 17 year old to have any. If they want it that much they will still want it at 18. I don't think it hurts of us to wait a year or so for something that could have such a limiting effect on their future choices. Still, your child, your choice.[FONT="][FONT="] Fighting the biggest battle of my life.Started 30th January 2018.

That's a great story Kimberley! Some people really are born to teach. I remember being stunned when a teacher on a short term contract at my daughter's school didn't get his contract renewed - word is, some of the "old guard" didn't like his unconventional style, even though he was liked and respected by the pupils, managed to make physics interesting to kids who'd shown no interest before, and GOT RESULTS! A really talented teacher who was the victim of narrow mindedness - to the disadvantage of the pupils! Another school will be getting the benefits now.
Hope your friend has a long and happy career!0 -

I think what Kimberley has said suggests it's not as limiting as you might imagine. But yes, I talked to her about it, and yes she already knew - as I knew she wouldYou mention "highly paid professions", well, to be honest, despite being a very bright almost-straight-A student, she's not particularly career orientated and would, as she has said many times, be happy working in a shop. Which many people will think is a waste, but if that makes her happy, so what?
It might not have hurt her to wait, but it hasn't - and won't - hurt her to have done it a couple of years earlier.0 -
I'm an HCA (about to go back and do my nurse training) I've got 7 tattoos (I'm getting another 2 in the next few days) only one (on my wrist) is visible and its not an issue to my employers - its not offensive and they're fine with it.
When I was in hospital recently I saw one of the staff there with full sleeve tattoos on both arms so clearly its not a problem.
Going back to the original topic, if at that age my parents had had the attitude of some of the posters on here I would have given them hell! Mum always took me with her to choose what I wanted (within reason) luckily she had (and still has) excellent taste and I usually was quite happy with anything she bought for me but she let me have the choice and I dont see what's wrong with that?*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -

And I bet both take them out for work? And that any tattoos are covered? I was thinking more of nose piercings and other areas, but eyebrows can't really be hidden either unless you have a long floppy fringe!!
Still, I know about the law sphere (I have two sons who are Lawyers) and having piercings is certainly not the norm and would definitely limit the career opportunities in what is already a competitive field, ditto teachers, I have one of those too.
I am not sure why anyone would actively assist their child to do that.0 -

What? You'd have kicked off at your parents when you were 8 because you weren't getting what you wanted?
Have I misunderstood?Herman - MP for all!0
