I've love it the company was open enough to publish the web and email stats after this news.

I imagine the news would have increased the visibility of the site, but at the same time a number of people will jump ship.

The Times published their stats after the 'pay wall' went up. Unique visitors were down something like 70%, but it didn't matter as they had a core of paying visitors.

Sorry Martin, this is the ultimate hypocrisy. To think I was offering to volunteer my time and experience in financial services to you, I'm sure there were others, do you think we'll do this now?

I appreciate you set this site up without the view of making money, but £87m, or £870m, it doesn't matter, the whole raison d'etre has gone with this sell-out. Your lack of openness on the first page is the final straw, on the future of site or your reason for selling (i.e. money). Do you really think Moneysupermarket will allow you to continue promoting e.g. GoCompare, or any other website, over theirs? Do you really think the current cashflow of the business is sufficient for their investment - they are going to have to seriously commercialise this site. What about the ongoing income which went to charities?

Another damning indictment on British society, not least those of us who say "well I would have done it for the money, wouldn't you".

This is specifically what the Editorial Code ensures will continue to happen.

Congratulations Martin! You've worked hard over the last 10 years, much harder than most, and have created something to be proud of. Your new deal will enable it to move forward in terms of technology while keeping the same great ethos it has now. You'll be able to focus more of your time on other projects, and more importantly, your new family.

The site content will be the same for the next 3 years and they would be foolish to change it after that, so I stay optimistic that they won't. Only time will tell!

    Good luck!

    I agree with this.

    Times change. Things move on.

Thanks also for pledging funds to Citizens Advice for specialist debt advice. We stand to lose the majority of our debt specialists in April 2013 when we know we lose LSC funding and the future of FIF is so uncertain

Despite what some others have said, you've earn't it, well done. I'm sure you could have sold the site for a lot more to another Commercial operator. As a long long time user I've saved loads by using the site, and now you deserve your 'cash back' :money:

I shall just add my congrats to Martin. Have been a member since almost the beginning and it was one of the first of its kind... Saved me lots of money and I enjoyed bargains and freebies from it. So Martin made lots of money, good for him...I don't think many people (in here or not) would turn it down if offered..I will stick to being a member...and if things do change with spam, bias advise or else...then will look elsewhere...
And double congrats for the lil one... at least his/her future is safe..as Daddy planned it all!!;):T

Wrong, If they break the code they have to pay a 7 figure payment to martin or whoever, if they paided £87 million a extra million is not much.

When this its the oft.. I hope gocompare or other sites put a complaint in..

Congratulations on the baby, by the way, Martin.
Due in November? Does that mean you saved money and stayed in on Valentines day? ;)

And what ensures the 'Editorial Code' will continue, once Martin is no longer 'Editor-in-Chief'?
