Seriously...lets calm down with the "end is nigh" predictions and have some faith in Martin's integrity and commitment to his website. This was never a co-operative, and whilst we were all happy to benefit from the advice and information available, besides some professionals dispensing their advice FOC, no-one else was stepping up to help with the funding of running the website and the vast costs and pressures associated with that and, if it hadn't been a huge success, would we have all chipped in our donations to prevent Martin losing his house etc to fund the losses...I doubt it! Fair play to Martin - he had a vision, he financed its development and growth himself, and through sheer hard work built MSE into what it is today, and if that is deemed to be worth £87m then good luck to him! He is retaining some form of editorial control, so let's have a little faith that things will only change for the good now MSE has access to bigger, shinier resources...and if we do start to see a bias, and the start of spamming etc then that is the time to jump on your moral high horse and unsubscribe.0

How much money have you invested into this website? Where was your input when the hosting was up for renewal, or the site went down and needed to be fixed immediately before the mob turned hostile?
You guys can swan in and out of the forums as you please, but at the end of the day he brought us here. He implemented this and it was HIS idea. So yea, he can now do with it whatever he pleases too.
I guess of lot of users have made the website into what it is today, by diverting time to it. For example by psting a wide range of professional advice, consumer experiences and deals. Perhaps those above 10,000 posts or thanks should get a share?0 -
I certainly don't blame Martin for selling. But the idealistic side of my always feel sad when a trusted brand or company goes over to the 'corporate' side. The Body Shop, Green & Blacks, Ben & Jerry's, etc. However, I cannot say hand on heart that I wouldn't have done the same as Martin.
I will stick around and see what happens on the site. These days I read the forums more than anything else. I have saved a lot of money and am much more savvy than I was when I first joined. If the ethos changes or the forums changed, particularly the old style board, then I will bow out.GC 2011 Feb £626.89/£450 NSD3/7 March £531.26/£450 April £495.99/£500 NSD 0/7 May £502.79/£500

Only because he brought you here, and kept the site running to give you somewhere to share your information, subscription and advert free.
Don't you get it? Martin is very very well off and has been making millions year on year while this site has been running. Why are you whining on about it now?! He had an idea to make money by using affiliate links on financial products and allowing people to talk about it. Instead of spamming everyone with adverts he decided to actually give people advice, which is why we all came here in droves and made him a millionaire.
That's business! He had a fantastic idea, and it paid off.
Next thing you'll be telling me you're shocked that Facebook makes money and you thought it was some lovely guy just wanting to create a place for friends to have somewhere to chat. :rotfl:0 -

Sad indeed, bring on the spam? adverts and lack of freedom. Where do we go now? Everyone knows MoneySupermarket is about making cash, they will of course want to make cash here else why would they pay such a sum..
Very sad..
How to I permanently delete my details from this site? No doubt the weekly email will very shortly be full of adverts for stuff MoneySupermarket want to promote.0 -
I admire what he has achieved and wish i had thought it up....
But if he thinks i will put up with any adverts he is mistaken..i use sky+ for the tele as i detest adverts.. Adverts are for fools .
And i would of done the same...kerching!!!It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0 -
'Lining my pockets, Making Martin Millions'
will be the new slogan for this website. As opposed to
'Cutting your costs,fighting your corner'
The motivation for the website has primarily been to make money for its founder.0
