Actually the members have probably done as much if no more than Martin. That's not to say he isn't a great source of information but MSE isn't just Martin.

I would agree that many members have done a great deal. However that does not diminish Martin's contribution and success in building the site and community. Although I intend no comparison there is a reason why Churchill who was a soldier, a spy, building planes etc during WWII is held in such high regard: Being a good leader is, in itself, an impressive thing.

it is very easy to see why they are unsubscribing they are showing they are not happy and that is a good way to protest why wait and see what is the point of that! cant see why you cant see that. I hope at least 90% unsubscribe.

The personal data shall not be sold to 3rd parties - but can or will it be given away?

That does of course, conflict with the Forum privacy policy which states that email addresses and IP addresses will be given to a new owner (ie. sold) but only for uses consistent with the purposes of the security policy.

    But they are being sold.

Upon hearing this news this morning I was initially pleased for Martin and the whole mse team. Congratulations on building a business that could be sold for that much!

This was quickly replaced (rather selfishly, but never mind) by the feeling that I just wont be able to trust this site any more. I have read the editorial code and all the related comments on it, but I feel that I wont be able to look at this site in the same way any more. I wont be able to 'take it at face value' and will have to do my own research to see if what we are being told, is actually true and not targeted marketing.

The trust has most certainly disappeared for me, the essence has now gone :(

I do worry about this kind of change - little by little it will change into a MoneySupermarket site, which, if I paid £87m for a site, I would expect it to be on my terms.

I don't blame Martin for selling but there was nothing said about him doing this or asking what we thought - he could still do what he wanted as he has done but it would have been nice to have been asked for our opinion on the matter.

    Time will tell.
