As soon as I heard the news, my first thought was "Good on you, Martin!". What a fantastic piece of news in the middle of a double-dip recession and depression!

It's great to see that true entrepreneurialship can still pull through in this current financial climate and gives me hope for many more would-be entrepreneurs out there.

To be able to create something from scratch, nurture it and turn it into a success, and then sell it on so that others can also benefit (re £10m for charities) and make a tidy sum for oneself is a fantastic achievement! I only wish I'd thought of something similar myself!!

    Congratulations Martin!

The Editorial Code is locked in for three years minimum. After that, we believe it will be maintained. Please judge us on the results

I think thats unswered my question :(

Everything in the Editorial code refers to the "Editor in Chief" if Martin walks away that will be someone from Moneysupermarket and they can obviously do what they want.
    3. MoneySavingExpert.com’s Editor-in-Chief shall control all editorial decisions made in relation to MoneySavingExpert.com and its editorial strategy.
    And more telling
    5. MoneySavingExpert.com’s Editor-in-Chief shall determine the design of the website together with any content, email, printed publications, reports, products, services, mobile applications and tools provided by the website from time to time (“MoneySavingExpert.com Content”).
    Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently! ;)

Just to put across the info published earlier again, the most important thing to understand is we've a legal contract to ensure MSE content stays editorially independent, free from commercial influence, we will continue to campaign and moneysupermarket services get no special treatment, nor will our database be used by them.

Is this the same level of "editorial independence" that the editors at News Corp owned newspaper thought they had?

That's not a vote against what's happened, MSE is a profitable website and if Martin can exploit that profit then fair play to him. I also appreciate his wanting to make the website sustainable longer term but he could have set up a charity to do that, so I'd much have preferred a more straight corporate line from Martin about the opportunity being too good to resist, rather than this talk about "new technology and investment".

It was similar with the justification for having a news column in the News of the World....yes the paper was soridid and evil but the column was a good way of getting through to readers? Hmmmm:undecided

I've not had much time to be active on the forums these last few months, I'm still happy to be a member and the website still contains a gigantic load of interesting and useful stuff. I'm still happy to answer queries or offer my 2p worth wherever I can as for me, it is the 'community' not Martin that makes this website what it is.

Congratulations Martin, you have earnt every penny, and helped thousands if not millions into coping with ever rising costs.
Take no notice of these ungrateful sods.

Actually the members have probably done as much if no more than Martin. That's not to say he isn't a great source of information but MSE isn't just Martin.

I notice a few readers are having a problem unsubscribing. I have just done it on the top bar in black hiy the weekly e-mail it then comes up with a page with unsubscrible on the right hand side in red which says unsubscribe. I suspect a lot of previous fans will now be hitting it to avoid spans which this site will be full of as that is how moneysupermarket makes its money!

Have the site users asked him for something? Not that I can see. that I absolutely agree, if it were the case, just that I don't seen that either and it would be even better if we upped our own standards so that we don't project ourselves or see the entitelment complex and jealosy where it didn't exist

If you've missed the last god knows how many comments calling him a sell-out, turncoat etc then that's your problem not mine :p
Having a signature removed for mentioning the removal of a previous signature. Blackwhite bellyfeel double plus good...

In my experience be it a legally binding code of conduct or a voluntary agreement, those who hold the purse strings do exactly want they want.
  • Congratulations Martin! You've worked hard over the last 10 years, much harder than most, and have created something to be proud of. Your new deal will enable it to move forward in terms of technology while keeping the same great ethos it has now. You'll be able to focus more of your time on other projects, and more importantly, your new family.

The site content will be the same for the next 3 years and they would be foolish to change it after that, so I stay optimistic that they won't. Only time will tell!

    Good luck!
