Excessively High Broadband Usage with BT

We are on BT unlimited and get all our films and tv on players. Last month we used 161 GB. Average is 120 Gb.
I am suprised that ISPs are still allowed to offer these low use packagaes or is it that the customer is duped into thinking they are cheaper!0 -

I don't think it is all customers being "duped", customers are looking for a bargain, for rock bottom prices, without caring about the detail. They sign up without thinking about their requirements, just the price. Then when the service doesn't meet their requirements, well, it's someone else's fault.
This doesn't apply to everyone, but reading the many sections on MSE, it's littered with people who are confused about what they need, what they can afford and who is responsible for them spending money.1. Have you tried to Google the answer?
2. If you were in the other person's shoes, how would you react?
3. Do you want a quick answer or better understanding?0 -
BT Company Representative,
I have just discovered a massive surge in my use from the month after my original contract expired including a long period when I was on holiday. I am now being told that an upgrade to unlimited will take me into a new contract.
I have messaged you with the full details and the reference is 140106-007030.0 -

I considered very carefully whether I needed unlimited. I decided that I did not and indeed for the whole duration of the contract I was at about 5GB usage with a max of 10GB so my decision not to go for the higher price was vindicated.
There is a difference between people not understanding what they have signed up to and BT just making up usage numbers. But lesson learnt and I will not sign up in future to less than unlimited as it simply gives the provider too much leverage.0 -
Two HD films from LoveFlicks or iPlayer once a week will soon gobble up 2 to 3 gb.
As for low useage, our cloud and business uploads in excess of 10gb a month as well.0 -
I appreciate that a post from Sariemarais states they have their smartphone switched off but here is a thought, something that contributed to excessive usage with my broadband.
My apps were set to auto update on my android phone and ate heartily into my monthly usage. I have since switched to request 'update authorisation' and it is staggering the number I receive each day. Who knows how much broadband allowance they use.0 -
Hi BT Company Rep,
I assume if I log my details on your link that you can look into our problems also?
Thanks,

Neil“Official Company Representative
I am the official company representative of BT. MSE has given permission for me to post in response to queries about the company, so that I can help solve issues. You can see my name on the companies with permission to post list. I am not allowed to tout for business at all. If you believe I am please report it to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com This does NOT imply any form of approval of my company or its products by MSE"0 -
Is there any timescale for BT coming back to me on this? My usage indicator is showing at over 100gb & I've had it turned off!!
Thanks0 -
I am also with BT and have the 10 GB broadband, this has always been fine as i dont watch movies or download any big files, in 16 months this has always been ok and i have not gone over the 10 GB limit, this month however i got a warning i was close to exceeding my limit after only 2 days, got in touch through the chat to let them know nothing has changed so this seems odd, checked my usage today and usage went from 13 GB to 32 GB in one day, started a chat session today 3 and a half hours later and 8 different people no further forward, Followed all the steps changed wireless key, reset hub etc.
Glad im near the end of my contract with BT0
