  • I spoke to a second tier technician and he told me the trial of traffic managing is ending at midnight tonight GMT.

I agree with a lot of you, there might be some miscommunication going on.

Spoke to them again, but there's nothing more I can do to get the ball rolling until the people dealing with my escalated complaint contact me. I might not be able to get out if the stop TrafficSense before then

Apparently the "trial" has now come to an end according to the first post on this page.

I don't work for any of the networks but do understand networks.

Unlimited data is going by the wayside because too many people are placing heavy loads on the networks by using high definition streaming and P2P.

This means that in densely populated areas the local cells get congested and speed slows down for all.

The ways this can be tackled are as follows:

    1. upgraded/additional backhaul connections from the cell site which it not sustainable as the more you add, the more people will use and the early days of 3G proved people won't pay a high price for data.

    2. Traffic management to discourage the use of high bandwidth services.
    3. Disconnect the SIMs of those with high usage who will then start screaming 'contract breach'.
The current networks weren't designed for heavy youtube usage or P2P, they were designed for sending e-mail and accelerated browsing.

If you are experiencing dial up type speeds and are using the above services then you are contributing to the problem, if not, one or more people in your local area are.
Interests: PCs. servers, networks, mobiles and music (esp. trance)

4G LTE should be able to sustain unlimited data for a bit longer.
  • Ive been with 3 for 10 years. I always recommend them to friends becasue they have good deals and now they seem to have the best network for mobile broadband. I work all over the country and always seem to have 3.5g connection when my mate on vodafone cant load google maps.

Over the last 2 years Ive has some customer service issues that have made me think twice about recommending them.

The first was in December 2010. I had a 1gb data allowance that I used to tether my laptop. I used get a text when warning I was approaching my limit which when reached I would be cut off or throttled to near enough cut off. Fair enough. But they changed this system so that when approaching 1 gb I would get a warniing text but then wouldnt be cut off. Instead I was allowed to go over the limit and ran up huge bills at £2 per megabyte. I wasnt informed of theis change in writing. I phoned customer service and complained bitterly. I think they refunded me some of the charges by adding credit to my account but I never verified this.

At present they are winding me up because on the 4th May I upgraded from a sim only plan that allowed tethering to Essential internet 500 all you can eat data, over the phone. At no point did the CS staff warn me that the 'upgrade' did not allow tethering. A feature I had become used to over the last 3 years. If I had noticed this feature was not supported within 14 days of starting the contract I would have cancelled and chosen another package. But tehtering remained operational until the 28th May.

Second problem is whilst trying to download custom android roms via bittorrent client on the phone the connection gets cut off. Attempting to browse the web throws up the page telling me Im not allowed to use tethering even though Im not. I suspect that the network detects the bitorrent protocol and assumes Im using a laptop. This goes against all the promotional material. One peice describing AYCE states that you can use 1000GB per month on you handset.

Ive lodged an official complaint about the lack of clarity on the tethering issue and I will add the blocked p2p traffic if the complaints department ever phone me back.

Im trying to get them to give me the 1GB tethering Addon for Free. They offered me the One Plan for £30 but Im fed up with them arsing about and am prepared to cut off my nose to spite my face and demand they cancel my contract if these 2 issues arent sorted !!
