  • I bought a chicken ( large British) from Lidl last week -it was a day over it its best before when I came to use it yesterday but the leg was covered in green mould and stank -this was from the Addington Lidl -I see the previous entry from the Croydon one -too late for me -it made me feel so sick I have binned it all and have no recourse with Lidl as I have had to package it well and get rid. Check your chickens carefully or they could taste fowl !:D

I would be reluctant to buy meat from Aldi, Lidl etc as to me it always looks grey and of very poor quality.

I've been buying pork, gammon, chicken, lamb and beef from Aldi for nearly two years since they opened a store near me, and I have no complaints especially as the prices are very competitive.

Complain to the manager if the meat looks grey.

I often buy meat from Ald! and never had a problem although I do always remove packaging immediately before putting onto a plate and covering loosely with foil and putting in fridge if i'm going to use it that day or the next (as long as it's still in date), if it's on it's use by date when I buy it and I won't be using immediately I bung it in the freezer even if I'm planning on using it the next day.

I have had good meat from cheap shops and bad meat from expensive and vice versa.
The horsemeat scandal proved that paying more is no guarantee of quality.

Greyness can just mean that they dont have "special" lighting or that it has been hung long enough, or that it has been in contact with air.
In a top quality butcher nothing is bright red.

The Bratwurst are really nice and 80%+ meat. Cheaper per kilo of eqaul quality sausages.

I prefer Lidl meat, they use a lot of local produce so I get lovely scotch beef and the chicken is great too.
