As a PS to this post

Lidl have reduced the price of their fresh meat this week
    e.g.
    2 sirloin steaks £2.99
    4 Pork chops £2.99
    diced beef steak £1.49
    Large chicken £2.99
    Steak mince £1.19

We bought twice the amount we usually buy

  • As with any store, butcher or market you will always get something wrong at some time or other. Nothing wrong with Lidls meat-its excellent. Especially the vacuum packed turkey breastt. Just as good as Tesco. If you want to be carefull, check how cold their chillers are-that is where some stores seem to fail-not keeping it cold enough. If it feels nice and cold then-go for it!

Has anyone had the diced steak? Would appreciate any views as am a vegetarian, but cook for hubby, who was complaining had not made him a steak pie for ages, but no way can I cut up meat...so, as it's on a good price just now, is it worth trying out?

oh my, I cant wait, I get the news letter from them as a store is being built in my home town, the only other one is 30 miles away in middlesbrough, bit far to go for a bottle of milk, the store is far from complete but I live in hope that it'll be open for xmas, aren't they cheap,

I like the premium bacon in Lidl, the stuff where the plastic packet is inside a cardboard sleeve - bit wasteful as it used to just be the usual plastic tray.

I especially like the dry cure as there's no added water, so none of that white stuff in the pan. Sweet cure and maple cure are delicious but do have a small amount of water (still very low though). The bacon is always really lean and at £1.49 a pack you can't go wrong.

Also impressed with the Irish steak mince, very lean and the cheapest I've seen for that fat level.

Premium sausages are nothing amazing but they're good for the money.

The ham is mostly very good quality, and I also like their frozen chicken nuggets which are actual chunks of breast in batter, not reformed meat.

i've always found it to be great. especially for caseroles.
  • We're still waiting for our lidl's to get planning permission but they reckon they can have a store built and open in 6-9 weeks!! So plenty time for xmas.
Our nearest Lidl at the moment is nearer 40 miles - needless to say it is a once a month stock up shop!
