Lidl Meat

Hello,

I know there have been the best things to buy at Lidl discussions before, but I wanted to ask a more direct question. - do you buy meat from Lidl ? and if you do which do you recommend ?

I always buy my fruit drinks/biscuits/sweets/chocolate and frozen pizza there, but I am very unsure about their meat - I have this thing in my head that it's not good quality ? - I am way of the mark ? I would love to hear that infact its great as I need to cut my shopping bill down !!

TIA

  • I've used their beef, chicken and lamb and don't think its any different from any other supermarkets meat. Cheap in my area at the moment as well at the moment.
Unless you've got ethical concerns and can afford to eat well reared or organic meat then any meat you buy is going to be intensively reared. Most of the really poor quality meat is cut up and put into ready meals where people don't know they're eating it anyway.
  • I think Lidls quality is pretty good. I had a problem with a chicken last year and took it back, they refunded and gave me another one free.

I think my main concern was that I saw a programme a while ago that talked about cheaper meat being pumped with water and some with additives - I obviously applied this to lidl in my head as they are cheap.......

Their bacon is lovely, very lean and thinly sliced, really delicious.

Applies to any supermarket meat that isn't organic/etc though :)

I have bought the fresh meat but i never have that stuff that is frozen in boxes. They have sort of frozen boxes of steak etc which always looks a bit off putting. The fresh stewing beef and mince are fine though, i think.

we buy a lot of meat from lidl, once we bought some sliced ham and oh thought it smelt off so we took it back and they gave usour money back and we filled in a complaints form and a week later we got a cheque for £20 to spend at lidl, so nice surprise:j

I have had the cubed steak, pork and lamb chops and the chicken, and had no problems, did the cubed steak in the SC for visitors this weekend, found no gristle or fat, four clean plates says it all.
