the store i work at have implimented a system that prompts the cashier about green points when they press total at the end of a transaction (a message comes up on the till). am not sure if this is a national thing or just at our store.
the prompt also comes up on the pharmacy, photos and tobacco kiosk tills. i work in the pharmacy and if a customer doesn't use a bag then i give a green point even though our bags are soooo tiny and not of much use to be used again!0 -

That's an excellent system in your store. Perhaps you would ask the store manager to request head office to get it implemented nationwide, as this would be most welcome by the customers.0 -

As I remember from being a little girl shopping with my Mum. Sainsburys used to give a penny for every bag you used. I do not recall my Mum ever having a confrontation over it the till operator automatically asked & paid my Mum.
I used to be embarresed though that Mum took carrier bags with her,
I'm now doing the same.
A number of times I haven't had my points but coz I've used so many vouchers I stear clear of CS. I must remember at the till, I must remember at the till, I must remember at the till.
that was a good idea on sainsburys part tbh, all the retailers should charge customers for the bagsNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20 -
I was told on Friday that the till would only let the cashier put a maximum of 10 bags through for the points - although I had used 12.0

1 carrier bag 1 point
1 bag for life 2 points
a cool bag 2 points
a meduim size bag 3 points
and a big trolly bag 4 points
please don't be cross with tesco cashier but we do have a lot to remember at the tills plus we are timed for each and every tranaction and i know you all think we have the most easiesty jod in the world belive me i did think that before i became a cashier
I agree with everything that guinness34 said as I am also a cashier for Tesco and I have worked for them for 15 years, and we are timed on every transaction it's called Scanning Speed. If you aren't scanning fast enough you are taken into the office, I think my store is obsessed with it
Also if you take a full trolley of shopping out to your car without bags you can get up to 10 green clubcard points. I am sorry you are all having problems in some stores I have had problems in other stores myself. In our store we are saving over 6,500 carriers every week and we are a large metro store. Tesco started this scheme because the government wants all stores to charge 10 pence per carrier bag that is not brought with you.
So it's in everybodies best interest to bring back their carrier bags:)0 -
The till prompt is in all stores, when you total the transaction a message appears on the screen saying
If the customer is reusing their own bags make sure you give the correct amount of green clubcard points.
I think some of the cashiers make up the rules as they go along as it's not up to the customer to say if they have their own bags, it's up to the cashier to ask them.
1--Say Hello / Morning etc,
2--Ask if they have a clubcard,
3--Ask if they would like help to pack,
4--Ask if they are using any of their own bags
and if so how many,
5--Help them pack,
6--After you have totalled the sale add on their bags,
7--Take their payment,
8--Say Goodbye.
And you have to do all this with a smile0 -
march this year i sent 3 mobiles and 2 ink cartridges for tescos to recycle which i believe totals 1700 green club card points......I havnt seen one point, i have contacted tescos who sent several patronising emails stating that they had never been recieved, until i pointed out they had all been sent out seperatley and found it hard to believe five items in five envelopes had all gone missing, now its seems Im an idiot who must have forgotten to write my clubcard number on the forms! silly me! I also have never recieved a single green point for using my own bags despite having 5 tescos bags (the pretty ones with the ladybirds on them) I for one will not be trusting tescos and will be spending my money at sainsburys they may be more expensive but at least ive always recieved my nectar points without trouble.0

I sent phones in April/May and have just received the points in the last few days. Contact the company the phones were sent to greener solutions and ask them if they received your phones.0

At 16, I have recently started as a Cashier in my local Tesco store as a Summer Job.
People may think that we have the easiest job in the world but it is defnitely not! There are numerous things a cashier has to do whilst serving a customer. They have to welcome the customer as well as try to start a conversation whilst watching to see if there are no 'Double Scans' or errors in the prices. As well as this we have to help packing and ensure that the customer is not in any difficulty. I know how frustrating it is to miss out on Green Points. I have only missed them out once or twice.
I normally work on the Express checkouts which means that people come throught sometimes with one item...I am always aware and inform them that I can award them one Green Point for not using a carrier which they thank me for. It is made out that we are deliberately missing out the the Points - But we are not
Also at the start of every shift the Checkout Team Leader will remind you about the Points and then have you sign to acknowledge you have been told - - So PLEASE dont take it out on the cashier
Oh...and I have a card here with the Points table written :
All Retailers' carrier bags and wine carriers = 1 - 1
Bag for Life = 1 - 2
Customer carries in hand or pockets = 1 - 1
Underneath pushchairs = 1 - 3
Other bags or boxes = 1 - 4
Basket = 1 - 4
Shallow trolley/Disabled trolley = 4 - 10
Large trolley/Baby and child trolley = 10 - 200
