Even when I tell the staff at my local Tesco (Irlam) how many bags I've used, it's rare they add the points on. Given the length of the queues at customer services, it's not worth waiting for a handful of points. However, this does negate the incentive that Tesco are offering for those of us genuinely concerned about the environment.

The simple solution is that they go back to charging for bags, but this would put the majority of customers off.

If you are re-using bags purely for points, then why use large bags? There is nothing to say there should be a minimum size bag. Take along a roll of freezer bags and see how happy the queue is behind you as you fit one item into each bag. Since the till tells the staff how many items you've bought, you won't even need to count your bags!

I have just come back from a different branch of Tesco to my usual one. I re-used 3 standard carrier bags and one large one. I said I had used four bags and the cashier looked at them and said "that's five points" without any comment or prompting from me.

Basically you should have got 8points for 4bags,so you also have been didled:confused:

My receipt says that the double green clubcard points will be included in the May statement.

The 3 standard bags I reused only carry one point according to the chart in my usual Tesco. It was the cashier who gave the extra point for the bigger bag.

I will try to catch the manager at my usual store next week and have a word.

Tesco seem to have given you the correct number of Green Points as 3 standard bags are 1 Point each and a bag for life is worth 2 points hence total 5 points.

I do agree though this is causing confusion as Tesco say the additional promotional points will be added to your May statements. How will you know for sure that the points have been added, unless you cross reference every receipt?

The same happens when you give in a double points coupon, the additional points are not shown on your receipt.

If Boots can show on your receipt double points or additional promotional points you've earned, why can't Tesco?

I agree. I actually would have taken 4 points quite happily to be honest.

    Life is too short...

The cashier has to manually add them on at the end of the sale. Remind them, it is very easy to forget.

Personally, I always round up. Used 5 bags? Have 8 points. No skin off my nose and a nice bit of customer relations. As long as no one takes the mick and dishes out hundreds...

What was it the other supermarkets are doing to try and encourage a more environmentally friendly attitude? I forget.

Good & bad points to note.

I agree, but its a good publicity stunt for tesco and the customer benefits. Dont forget to mention the Green points for mobile phones and ink cartridges.

But knowing tesco, we will not get all our double points for green purchases, as I have little faith in their system.

But Im happy to send in phones & cartridges. Which is a VERY good rate re deals points.

I have sympathy for 90% of cashiers, they have so much to remember.

But Tesco shouldnt use this PR exercise if it cant be implemented correctly.

I think most people expect the cashier to add green carrier points and forget they are human and they are using 2 systems.
    1) green carrier bag re use
    2) normal bag use.

Another idea from up high obviously from someone whose never worked on a till on a Saturday afternoon at kids half term.
Thanks to everyone who posts comps :T

I've never reused a carrier at Tesco (I use mine for bin liners) but I nearly always get one or two green points on my receipt. I obviously have that 'recycled' look about me. I'm not complaining but it seems to defeat the object - particularly as you lot seem to get so much hassle getting the correct points added.
