  • Thanks HappyMJ, you make perfect sense but there is always the "look, do you want to live together or not" or the "if you loved me you would just pay for it" cr*p. (crikey how bad does that sound!)

Where does he live now and what is he currently paying in board and or rent to the landlord?
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
  • I agree that money shouldn't matter but I have been burned by a similar situation before, and it got me into debt, coupled with the fact that my OH is TERRIBLE with money, I can imagine if we ever went down the joint account route, I would wonder why the rent wasn't paid and see a shiney new <enter word of new toy here> in the kitchen!

So money does matter to me I guess, I am very sensitive about being taken for a ride... :o

Do you mean if the roles were reversed? I would feel like a bum if I didn't pay a representative share to the home. As it stands, I am happy to pay 2 or 2.5 times what he puts in, but not if he puts in £150!! (cos we wouldn't find anywhere for that!)

Whether he is taking the P or not depends on how much this "spending money" is, surely?

If he's allowing himself about £600 a month or more spending money I'd say that's taking the P, but if he's only got £200 or something then he just can't afford to live with anyone that isn't willing to pay for him.

Then go 50/50. It doesnt matter whether he earns less than you, why should you pay for half of his share.

I completely disagree with this. I earn far more than my partner, so I pay 2/3 of all rent & bills and pretty much the whole of other ones (like tv, phone etc.). It's only fair - it's not her fault that she earns less than me.

    But to the OP, yes.

Did you work it out as a % or just guessimates?
