Yea the HOSTS file has a long list of websites in there.

HOSTS.MVP is a 1kb file and has hardly any text in there

Looks like i did it ok then......

yes TAKETHIS the file is 588kb

    Did you note this?
Editors Note: in most cases a large HOSTS file (over 135 kb) tends to slow down the machine.

To resolve this issue (manually) open the "Services Editor"
Start | Run (type) "services.msc" (no quotes)
Scroll down to "DNS Client", Right-click and select: Properties - click Stop
Click the drop-down arrow for "Startup type"
Select: Manual (recommended) or Disabled click Apply/Ok and restart.

Look here for more info about DNS Client. You don't need it.

    Tanglefoot:

Not sure. Perhaps the OP can see how it performs. No problem to disable/re-enable the Service.

Real time performance is what matters. The OP can decide which works best for him.

disabled the DNS CLIENT as above....

restarted, cant see any slowign down of pages to load.

youtube seems just as smooth in google chrome, and "skysports" the slowest website in the world loads pretty quick

maybe slightly slower in firefox but nothing notable to be honest

but speed of performance is the most important thing to me as i will be running programs that constanty update, so speed is key for me. thats hte main reason i re-installed to be honest.

also im getting the little ads popping up on FF and CHROME on youtube....when a video loads...anyway to stop these things or are they part of youtube?

Ads at the bottom of the videos are part of YouTube.
How do I add a signature?

Plug Flash Drive in, choose Custom Scan in MSE and select the drive letter of the Flash Drive

How did you save the programs to the Flash Drive?

Note: ads before the videos are also part of YouTube.

Installed programs often store settings in the Windows Registry and thus cannot simply be copied from one place to another. What are they?
