Hi i just re-installed windows xp onto my pc
It was already running xp, and i have another pc that i used the exact same disk for.
The install went fine, and im now in windows, but everything seems far more "blocky" than before? the icons like "my computer, IE, media player" all seem bigger and dont look as new as they do on my other pc (if that makes any sense)
Basically it just looks abit old and out-dated, but its not like this on my other pc?
I thought it might just be IE but i just downloaded firefox and it appears to be the same kind of old school text and style on there aswell?
When i had xp on this machine before thing looked much better and "newer"
Also its not asking me for a password when i log in, how do i set up myself as the administrator?
Thanks

It will have defaulted to its original settings, meaning you need to update it back to your desktop\ graphics card\ sound card settings etc.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

You need to adjust the settings, or install the drivers, for your graphics card. You may also need to install drivers for other items (sound card, network card etc)
The account you added during installation will be an administrator. If you entered a password at the same time you should be asked to enter it at startup. Check User Accounts in the Control Panel. (I suggest you delay doing this until the machine is running as you want it)How do I add a signature?0 -

Thanks mate, i had a look on that site but none of that seems relevant to this problem? (or i just don't know what i should be looking for if I'm honest!)0 -

Think you could be right regarding the graphics/video card, as i just tried a video on youtube
No sound either, and although it downloads ok, the video isnt playing smoothly at all..0 -
From memory, as it's a long time since I had to do this on XP.....
Right click a blank area of the desktop. Click Properties. Click settings. The slider will (probably) be at 640x480 or 800x600. Slide it to the right to either 1024x768 or 1280x1024.
If it won't allow you to change it, then you need to find out the make/model of the graphics card and download the latest drivers from the vendors site.

you'll also have to download flashplayer, shockwave, etc. for videos and the like to play properly, anti-virus, a proper browser (like Opera or firefox), all available from filehippo

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
You need to keep running 'Windows Update', should be in control panel or a yellow shield will keep popping up in taskbar to install the updates.
Will take a while, but that will update your icons and display as well as applying all the security updates.
That will sort your problem out.0
