FYI, flash player has a different version for IE than for the other browsers, and also 32- or 64-bit versions dependant on your OS...see here:-

cheers mate, i hate IE so i'll be using google chrome or firefox....so wont bother with trying to get it to work for IE now
Thanks0 -
Cheers mate, i did that
hosts file now in system32, etc folder....so i presume thats all correct?
Will this work regardless of the browser im using?
If you placed it into the correct place(overwriting your old HOSTS file); yes, it will work regardless of the Browser that you use.
Update to IE 8 anyway and check for the yellow bar when you attempt to install Flash.. You might need to use it every now and again.0 -

I think ive done it correctly i have a hosts file called "HOSTS.MVP" in the folder i mentioned above, according to the guide this is correct?
there is a HOSTS file in this location also, and properties says it has been modified today, so i think that sounds right?0 -

I think you may need to rename HOSTS to HOSTS.OLD, then rename HOSTS.MVP to HOSTSHow do I add a signature?0

Not necessarily. If the OP followed the instructions and used the Batch file; a simple batch file (mvps.bat) that will rename the existing HOSTS file to HOSTS.MVP then copy the included updated HOSTS file to the proper location.
So, he can just check the size of the HOSTS file. Anything over 145 KB will indicate that it is the new.
The original will be tiny.0 -

Did you note this?
Bad idea?- With the DNS Client service running: The "hosts" file is read and parsed only a few times, once at service startup, and thereafter whenever the DNS Client service notices that it has been modified.
- Without the DNS Client service running: The "hosts" file is read and parsed repeatedly, by each individual application program as it makes a DNS lookup.
