Has he apologised for what he wrote Hypno? Ar**!

Nope, but he did say that he subsequently believed us to be genuine!! Just hope it does not impact on any future sales.

The payment from the one buyer I was waiting for has come through so that is good, and the only things I have on ebay now have no watchers or anything but they are not exactly high value items - if they sell at all it will prob be at 99p!

I do really need to get my act together to do a car boot - can't do so this weekend because the children are ski racing, then at a concert next weekend so don't want the early morning!! Might be able to do one on the 29th.......nothing else in the diary for that day.

The scary thing about a house swap is the amount of housework that I would need to do before going

I know!! My friend keeps urging me to do it but I can't even consider it. Now we have a gaping hole in our ceiling to add to the horrors!

It is a pest, and you do have to get organised. But we used to have 'foreign students' too, like your Norwegians, so we had to be fairly OK for the main rooms and their rooms anyway.

The thing that is handy is we got organised and put all manuals for appliances in one lever arch folder, with all warranties. Because the houseswap people need this in case they can't guess how things work, but it also meant we could find the stuff easily afterwards too.

We first 'house swapped', when we swapped with relatives in another part of the country. But that was before we'd heard of the official version.

Hypno - I don't know how 'good' your kids are at skiing, mine were into music instead. We used to trawl the local newspapers looking for organisations sponsoring local children, we managed to get quite a few courses sponsored and money towards instruments. Local organisations tended to be better than national for this. Also we found quite a few courses had access to bursaries, or would come up with a special discount for us having more than one child there if we asked. It might be worth a try, if you've not tried already.

Hi there, the children do get a small amount of sponsorship but I will have to think of other ways. Our local council offers grants but the next one is not until February so too late really to make plans for this coming season.

Right today I have spent ages doing stuff but it looks like I have done nothing!! So to remind myself of my actions today, here is my list:

    - wrote to the tax office with missing information from years back!
    - tidied the lounge, hall, stairs and landing
    - completed one mystery shop and started another
    - sorted out and paid half the ebay money to the person who complained about me. Fair result all round, except the comment stays on the feedback list even though I am back to 100% positive
    - cancelled 4 direct debits for odds and ends totalling £27.96 a month :D
    - booked DD on a guide weekend in October

And finally, going against things I said yesterday, I applied for another low LOB card. It was rejected. Surprise surprise.

So, because I am not entirely sure why, I have written to my banks etc asking them to look at my records and inform me of anything that would be seen as negative as somewhere along the line, something is holding me back, and it is not immediately obvious from the credit files.

right, better go and brush my hair and go and do some real work :D

I think they are just being generally tighter for some reason. I've noticed both personally and on here that it seems harder to get a new card especially one with a decent interest rate and credit limit...

I'm not going to even try for another one this year - all my payments are up to date, no arrangements entered into, even my overdraft is within limits!! So, we have no idea why really, other than me being self employed perhaps and our total borrowing still being quite high.

Oh well, as I say, I am not going to try again. Only so many knockbacks I can take.....

  • I wouldn't take it personally - I did until I'd noticed lots of other people not getting the %apr or limit required. For example, I did eventually get a 0% for 9 months card last year, but it was with a £250 credit limit - not much use when there is also a transfer charge.

Definitely something going on in terms of how they are scoring people nowadays; probably risk-based, but I also suspect that if all the card companies 'agree' not to allow too much movement, then they can all increase their rates and there won't be much we can do.

Call me a paranoid conspiracy theorist, but in terms of game theory it makes a lot of sense... well, it does to me :D

Didn't you say that your egg card interest rate had been massively increased recently?

Bad luck hypno - so sorry to hear of yet another undeserved knockback. One day we will be laughing at these scumbags as they beg for our custom. Well done on closing those direct debits, every little helps.

I never had any luck getting money from the council, so you're doing better than I did.

On the credit card thing, just seen this on another thread

"The reason we were turned down was purely that we have alot of available credit - none of our CC are up to the limit - "

It might be worth ringing up to reduce your credit card limits for two reasons:

    1) It will mean you can't spend on them (I don't believe you will anyway - you seem very determined!:D) .

    2) It will make that credit available when you apply for a new card to transfer balances (it takes a few months to filter through I think)

We've come accross it at times ourselves, when odd cards give you ridiculously high credit limits. Could it be that?
