you in a bright mood this morning P :rotfl:
Hypno - presents for teachers  I completely forgot and needless to say not included in my budget either  DD is moving to a closer primary school so it is her last week next Friday, think I may make some chocolate muffins for the class and the teacher and just ice "thank you" on teachers -oh and of course "best mum" on the ones left for me :T

My sister used to teach in primary schools & I loved visiting at the end of the school year as the house was awash with chocolate!
However, perhaps even more DFW... as i know you're a keen gardener could they not get a small bunch of flowers from the garden?Total Debt 13th Sept 2006 (exc student loan): £6240.06

I often wondered if parents felt they Had to buy us presents. FWIW it made no difference how the child was treated, though lavish present-givers reputation preceded them, and SOME teachers may have been nicer to the parent!:p
And presents received were frequently re-cycled to our childrens teachers.....(yup we felt obliged too)

Hiya Hypno
You've just reminded me of presents too! The thing is where does it stop as there's also the teaching assistants which normally i'd buy for. However, this year my son has three part time TAs and I can't buy for all of them. Think I might pop to tesco for wine. Does anyone know if that 30% off wine is still on?
Credit card companies really annoy me. When I needed a 0% deal I couldn't get one anywhere. Now we've paid of barc**card they're writing to us every few days to try and tempt us. Only thing i'd use their card for now is an icescraper in the winter.
Have a good day xxJanuary budget

Hi Hypno - just thought I would update you on my egg failure (we could start a group
)
Spoke to them today in my proactive mood. Basically I have too much credit compared to my salary. I also have a loan not detailed in my sig (manageable payments, will address it when I have dealt with CC and it will be finished in the not too distant future) so this and the o/s credit cards total too much.
Suggested as loan was not in joint names, DH could apply for a card in 6 months time and can't see a problem. Understood that I wanted to shift one of the CC debts rather than increase my debt overall but as Little Britain so rightly says "the computer says no" and he can do no more. He was very nice to me, very good reason for my refusal I think. He said that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my credit scoring as it was very high, only problem is the total debt - fair enough. So from hereonin I go into the .....no application for 6 months zone...............:beer:0 -
I taught for many years and never received many presents! I worked mostly in deprived areas so I was always really touched when anyone gave me anything as it must have been a wrench for them financially. I must be one of the few women on the planet not to like chocolate, in fact I haven't any kind of a 'sweet tooth' so the rare gifts of chocs were passed on to a relative(who thought I was sooo thoughtful and generous to buy them for her:rotfl: )
I always really appreciated a pot plant(not very original I know) but I still treasure a home-potted spider-plant which I was given by a parent donkey's years ago. It's huge now and has had dozens of healthy 'offspring' over the years. I would have loved wine too(of any colour), although some teachers may be TT:eek: so not always a good buy for all.
In my view just a nice card with an appreciative message is lovely and is something for the teacher to keep. if you have the time, a home-made one would be brilliant.0 -

Thank you all for the input re presents for the teachers.
In the interests of not scoffing trufflesI think I will go for the pot plant option. DD is in high school so only gives to her class teacher, who is really fab. He can have a bottle of wine from the cellar. (or the wine rack.....)
DS leaves a little primary school this year so I feel I should buy for his teacher who he has had for the last couple of years, the head, who, due to the small size of the school, is very involved in teaching rather than doing "head" stuff, and the classroom assistant who has been with the class since they started at the school. Usually I buy a big box of roses or something for the staffroom, so everyone can dib in. However, I will either buy the three teachers a plant each, wrap the pot in wrapping paper etc, or perhaps could buy a bigger plant for the staff room (as long as someone looks after it in the summer hols!!)Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Hi everyone,
My house mate is a teacher and he says he would rather have a home made cake/scones/flapjacks brought in on the last day as a little treat than chocolate. As a bonus this can be shared around so no need to worry about TAs.
Hope that helpsDebt Free - done
