Whoops! Sorry folks! I came on, saw babes' post and replied..without even looking to see if any others were above her!!!:o Many apologies, I'll start again!
Sue xLast smoked 4days 10 hours ago! Yay.
Anyway I feel that I have now come through the other side and realised that I am now a non-smoker BUT I need to take better care of myself as that bolsters my self esteem which makes me stronger in the physchological battle that is giving up fags.
Thanks so much for being so honest, warez, and I'm pleased it turned out as it did for you. Do please beware of ever doing so again as you might not be so lucky!
Try not to worry too much about weight gain at this point, though I can understand how we women get drawn into compensating with food, we know we will have problems getting rid of it afterwards, but meanwhile it may help in beating the Nic demon which is more of a danger to your health than food in the short-term!
Have a look at the following for help against gaining weight, warez.
Sue x
Weight-gain help: Here are a few tips to help, both whist you're stopping..and afterwards if necessary.
Again as with being an aid in stopping smoking, try a glass of water 1/2 an hour before a meal. Also sip water during snack times; it truly does work - I should know!I've put on 4Lbs over Christmas and am now walking them off. Whatever exercise you do, double it and have periods during it where you walk normally, then speed up. i.e. Walk for 100 yds, then quicken the pace for 100 yds. Then drop back to the normal, then faster again. Do it as much as you can and it'll kick your metabolic system into working faster - truth!
If you snack in evenings...or whenever, use water and fruit instead, especially oranges and apples that take a while in eating. Also, have a small handful of nuts, especially almonds or walnuts (NEVER salted!)
A fitness dvd is good to workout with as often as is possible.
If you've a phone, download an app or 2 to help. When using the phone wander around instead of sitting, it all helps.
When cleaning your teeth do squats..yes, seriously!
When you've warmed the body up via a workout or similar then don't forget to use weights! They build up the muscles which help so much in burning off calories.
Go on, give it a try, after all, if you can stop the fags then you can lose weight - yes, me too!! I have asthma so it's imperative to be as slim as possible or I'm soon gasping.
All the best, Sue x
To everyone, please NEVER give in to the temptation of trying 'just one puff or one cig' as what works for one does not always work the same way for another!!! Others have given in and been hooked straight away!Chances are that will happen to YOU!
I'm 26 years old and have been a smoker since I was 18 and am fed up of the smokers cough, the standing outside in the cold and rain and the feeling of having these tiny little sticks control my life. Plus the extra £500 or so a year that I reckon I spend on tobacco wouldn't go amiss at all either!
Ever since I came back to my home I've found myself thinking if I can go for a day or two without, then why not a week? A month? A year?
Going to try going cold turkey and have already told my smoking buddies at work that I'll be doing it and they're really supportive so hopefully they'll sneak outside without me noticing!
A very warm welcome, besha!! You sound so very wise with your thinking and it is true that if you can stop for x amount of time then with willpower and determination you CAN stop for good.
However, take it one day at a time and always remain hopeful, especially as you clock up the days!Well done in reading through the posts on the thread, some are so inspirational and will help you no end to reach your goal. So keep on reading them as it's also taking up time thinking about 'other things'!
You did well in pre-warning your work friends, and please, IF any of them are silly enough to offer 'a stick' be assertive with "I don't smoke any more!"
Every best wish for Monday, besha! We will all be willing you on and please bear in mind always - that you are never alone! - others know and understand just what you're going through!
Sue xx
VERY WELL DONE, Kizzy!!! :T You have done so very well - and got yourself through a rough patch - hats off to you!! Please ask your OH not to offer any NRT again! Tell him all you need is his love, support and understanding...and don't forget..if the need arises again....have another good cry as it can only help you even more.
That bath sounds perfect and will really help you relax and feel much better.
Be so very proud of all you've achieved today!!!

Morning all!
5 days, 7 hours, 32 mins!
Had a hideous day yesterday, bad tempered, tearful and didnt sleep at all last night. But didnt want a fag.
Got up early today to try and tire myself out for tonight. Going to take the dog for a walk and keep myself busy.
If I can get through yesterday, I can get through anything. Started to read Allen Carr's book again. Am going to read it on a loop I think until, well, I dont know when!
It has definitely helped, but I am not getting the sense of enjoyment he says I should be getting stopping smoking.
Sue UU - I had a bit more water yesterday, which I think helped. You are such an inspirational lady and you really do help.
Anyway, good luck today everybody. It helps me to think of you all going through similar experiences to me. So hope that works both ways.

Morning everyone , sorry to hear you had a bad day yesterdaywarezbut you got through it so well done to you
you are doing so well.
I think mornings are going to be the hardest time for me and I really need to find a way to change my routine of wake up, bathroom , downstairs, kettle on let dogs out have cig on step make tea, have another cig, and maybe another one. Morning is definitely when I smoked the most. This morning I had a small breakfast. I would never have eaten breakfast before unless OH made it as a treat, and then panicked that I'm going to gain so much weight:eek: re read pm from sue-uu and tips on not gaining weight, and gave myself a severe talking to! I actually had my last cig 36 hours agoand cravings aren't so bad...Not physically anyway ....mentally it's very very tough for me ...but onwards and upwards and thank you all so very much. I would have cracked yesterday if it wasn't for you all and your support.

Hey Everyone,
Thanks for the really supportive replies and thanks especially to Sue for all the practical advice in the PM you sent. I can see this thread is going to provide a lot of inspiration to me.
One thing that has always terrified me about stopping is not knowing what to expect, and the stories of weight gain etc but as was said above temporary weight gain is a lot better than a lifetime of smoking! I think the trick for me is to keep myself as busy at all times as possible as it's mainly when unoccupied I find myself reaching for my baccy. I have quite a busy period at work at the moment and will be working longer hours than usual so fingers crossed this can help in that respect!
I will check in tomorrow to let you know how I'm finding my first day! Good luck to babes21 for tomorrow as well let us know how you are finding things!0 -
I would love to stop smoking, I have smoked for 20 years although at one point it was just at the weekends. In the last few months I have smoked alot more than what I had previously.
My planned day to stop is tommorow (monday the 7th) when I am back at my main job. While at work I don't go for a ciggarette and manage from 8.30am till 3.30pm without one. I would usually have a few in the morning before leaving and then when I come home till I go to bed have quite alot.
I hope I can do this.

Morning debs and welcome aboard
congrats for deciding to quit, :T you can definitely do it ...if I can anyone can
my advice is have a read of all the posts they will fill you with inspiration and ideas to cope with any wobbles that you may have. I quit 36 hours ago ( which was only on Friday night, last cig before bed lol but sounds so much longer in hours !!) staying busy, staying focused and checking in here are all things that I am doing to keep myself stopped. There are a couple of others stopping tomorrow too so your not alone and they are a lovely bunch on here, very supportive, and full of great ideas to keep you going.

Kizzy01 - well done you! You sound like you are finding it tough, but are being really pragmatic about your approach, so go you!
Besha/Debs2009 - good luck for tomorrow - I know you are probably dreading it, but when you face up to your fears, they are never as bad as you had anticipated they would be. The biggest hurdle is to start the journey to give up smoking. Then you can face each stage as it happens.
I am off to find a relaxing mp3 to listen before I go to bed, so I can hopefully fall asleep before 5.22am like I did last night!!
Have a fab fag free day everybody. xSmoke Free since 1 January 20130 -
