Ok Bess, and thanks very much for warning us, though I think if BG's or anyone from MSE Towers checks on us there will be little sign of spam. ;)

Well made it through work :T,found it a bit weird on my break but just popped a nic mint instead, had to get petrol on way bac and managed to pay without getting 10 fags :j I k:jnow it's early days but that in itself is an achievement

Oh, that's absolutely brilliant, anablle!!! :T It sounds as though you handled it all so well. For the early days it sounds like the nic mint is an ideal substitute at break time, far better than a ciggie any day! :)

You're right, it's early days, but today you made the momentous decision to stop and will soon have achieved your first day and THAT is a great achievement!! :j Only those who have smoked can appreciate what that first day means to us.....and we ALL do here. Wonderful to hear about your first day, anablle, thanks so much for letting us know.

Every best wish for tomorrow. :)

Well done, anablle! It's little wonder the night was restless after your mind was so full of stopping, I'm sure half of it is excitement and the rest a bit of fear, no doubt, but you got to that first morning and first full day. :grinheart

Not sure what you mean about 'all routines changed', but if you mean you've altered things a little to help then that's a good thing.

Be careful how much coffee you drink as it's a stimulant; if it's your main drink and you've always been used to having a ciggy with it then maybe think about swapping to tea for a short while.

If changing any other morning routines (or daily/evening one) can switch your mind not to think of 'those former times' then try them. ie, showering earlier, cleaning your teeth as soon as you get up, downing a glass of water, having a morning pure orange juice etc. Anything like that which helps YOU is worth thinking about.

We're wishing you all the best all day, annablle, your first full day on the strength of yesterday's! You're doing well so keep on praising yourself as you really deserve it!!! :D

  • Good luck today anablle you can do it! We are all rooting for you! It really doesn't take long to switch that morning routine. I never think about smoking in the now and I always used to sit down with a coffee and several cigs first thing for about an hour :o Just think after today you have made it though the hardest 2 days with a quit :j

So big day for me today - or at least I thought it was until I checked my silk quit last night and realised yesterday was my 4 month anniversary! :rotfl: I can hand on heart say renovating a hosue does take your mind off of it all!

Ok have to get on but thought I'd popin and give everyone some moral support

Please can I join too :) I really really want to quit but am terrified and don't really know the best way forward ! NRT ? E cig thingy ? I just want to stop but already my hands are shaking at the thought :(
  • Hi Kizzy of course you can join in! The more the merrier! Well done on beginning to think about it. I'm not sure which would be the best method for you, only you can really tell. I do believe there are some NHS site which you can do a questionnaire and they will make suggestions on what seems like it would suit you best.

You can also go along to a ceasation service (I went to Boots and they booked me in for an appt that day) where you talk through yoru habits and they help you come up with a quitting plan. I then had to choose a quitting day before my next appt the following week and I was given NRT. I didn't quit on that day, nor the next but actually the day before my next appt!

I would say the terror you are feeling is perfectly natural and everyone who decided to quit feels it. Its the addiction that causes it but I can promise you as soon as you take the leap you realise it wasn't what you feared it would be. Good luck, let us know if there's anything we can do to support you x

You're most welcome to join us, Kizzy01, so long as you realise straight from the start that we do not cater for e-cig users on this thread! They are hand-held devices as it says in the 1st paragraph of the first post. However, there is a thread on MSE specifically for e-cig users if you wish to use them.

The first thing I'd advise is that you don't let yourself get too frightened at the thought of stopping smoking; to be honest, as soon as we stop we all seem to find that it's not half as bad as we thought it was going to be and soon find it really is possible to live life without them, truthfully! In fact we feel liberated so quickly. :j

Have you tried Alan Carr's "Easy way" book? A lot of people get on well with that and give up as soon as they've stopped reading!

Have you ever been to a Cessation Nurse? Your GP quite possibly has one. You make an appointment and receive 1 to 1 help every so often, we've had great reports of them helping folk break the habit - as well as using the thread. We're there as support every day, but you get to see a CN physically possibly once a week or fortnight which is brilliant for so many. They also check your CM (carbon monoxide) readings which really excites people stopping the fags as it's another wonderful change in the body with all that muck being got rid of. :) The levels change sooo quickly too!

If you really do want to stop, do consider making an appointment, I think you'll benefit immensely and possibly crack it once and for all - imagine that!!! :D

I'll also send you a tips and advice PM for you to read through and keep close by. If there's any other way I can help please let me know! :)

IF you really don't want to wait to see a CN and want to stop right now then read the PM and perhaps consider cold turkey. It is difficult for the first few days, but after 3 days the nicotine is out of your body! Whereas if you go for NRTs the whole process obviously takes longer; it's really an individual thing, you need to try one way and see if it suits you, if it doesn't then try another.

However you try and whenever we'll help and support you all we can and be there for you! :) Keeping as busy as possible once you stop is a huge advantage as it helps focus your mind away from little white sticks; most of us clean the house from top to bottom and it does wonders for us, seriously!

Hugs and best wishes, Sue xx

Thanks everyone :) ok appointment made at stop smoking service in town for Monday :) ...didn't really fancy the E cig thing anyway so will not bother with that , maybe cold turkey is the way to go. So I've decided tomorrow is my quit day, clear pot to put the money i save in so I can watch it grow, cleaning plan in place, lots of pens handy to chew, and lots of fruit cut up in chunks and in the fridge ....ooh I'm scared and excited all at the same time ...I really have to do this !

    Hi there

Can I join please? I tried once before and started again after 16 days (after hubby got sacked!). Anyway am ready to go.

Stopped smoking new years eve (2.40am to be precise) and havent had one since.

Read the Allen Carr book twice and am doing OK. So I have been stopped for 3 and a half days.

I like the 'all for one' spirit and feel that I will benefit from it hugely and hopefully can support others also.

    :)
