So I've decided tomorrow is my quit day, clear pot to put the money i save in so I can watch it grow, cleaning plan in place, lots of pens handy to chew, and lots of fruit cut up in chunks and in the fridge ....ooh I'm scared and excited all at the same time ...I really have to do this !

Excellent work, Kizzy! :D You sound so geared up and determined...just what you need to go ahead!

I know fear and excitement were exactly how I felt all that time ago and it's so good to hear the feelings of excitement of others at thoughts of stopping and freeing themselves from this demon weed.

I've seen your PM and what you're doing with the money you save is just perfect, it'll be a great incentive for you for certain. If you want a little more motivation then put your remaining used dog ends (and any others you still have) in a jam jar or similar and put a little water in with them; then, if ever you're tempted, take a whiff of that disgusting concoction - it'll be enough to stop you in your tracks immediately! :(

See how you get on, and if you find you need that extra help then go and see the CN, though normally it's done before stopping! ;)

I'm delighted to see you're all prepared with pens handy to chew, and lots of fruit cut up in chunks and in the fridge ready for when needed, perfect.

Another great tool to use is your mind! Whenever a 'thought' comes have a few lovely memories or plans prepared to clutch at quickly so you knock old nic out of your mind and replace him with lots of lovely thinking!

For the evenings...if you're not whacked out by then, do something to help...a hobby that you really enjoy...knitting, crochet, puzzles...anything to keep your mind occupied.

Always remember that you're never alone, others here are experiencing all that you will be (the joys too! :D), especially annablle. It really does help!

    Many good wishes, Kizzy!

Hello there, warez  so sorry to hear about your hubby last time, but it's sooo good to see you back now - and having already stopped!!!! :T We have a LOT of success with Allen Carr, I'm sure Money maker gave up with that, she'll be on before long to tell you.

I look forward to seeing you in the 'all for one' aspect as it's wonderful when everyone helps each other. See you again soon, warez and all the very best!

Ah, thanks for the warm welcome.

Still going strong, had a bit of a wobble earlier on when I got excited about something (new plans coming through for an extension, now, now!) - I had anticipated the desire to smoke when bored, when feeling down, but the excitement one took me by surprise. But, had a word with myself and it faded. It's funny how I obviously used fags for boredom, excitement, depression, pretty much everything!

I have downloaded the silk meter and am absolutely obsessed with it!

I am giving up for my health really, no other reason. I smoked so little that the financial incentive just wouldnt do it. I have saved £2.89 in the 3 days I have stopped! Still I am going to wait until the end of the month and pay it off my mortgage. If I do that every month it will save me 2 years off my mortgage, so that is definitely an incentive.

Hope everyone else is doing well and fighting the 'little monster' that is tormenting them. We can all do it. x:)

Hey I'm still goin strong ( if that's what u call it ) , yes sue I had to change my routine before I went work to not consist of coffee and cigs :o , so off to work I go which was stressful as ever and again got through it :j but my fear was looking out the window at the glorious sunny day which reminded me of spring .... Yes in January lol and to me spring = garden / washing blowing on the line / cig in between :naughty so I did the above without the cig in between :T . I must say my willpower is being well and truly tested to the point off nearly going for " just 10 I'll start again tomorrow " so popped my nic mint and headed to the safety of home :T. So a little praise for determined (again well done u :T) and sue for your support :T:T.
Welcome to the newcomers :)sorry my heads a bit scrambled due to getting my life back but I'll hopefully start to remember names as I read posts  goodluck :j.

Well, I subscribed to this thread months ago and have scrolled past it ever since, thinking…I’ll do something about it soon. I even had a few failed attempts last year. I first started giving up smoking 13 years ago, the longest I have managed is 8 months.

I decided that I was stopping on the 3rd of January and had 3 cigarettes yesterday morning, leaving my ‘Emergency’ cigarette in a drawer. Yesterday wasn’t too bad, due to a nicotine patch and sleeping a lot during the day. Today I read the Thread from start to finish. I realised very quickly that the emergency cigarette would torment me, so smoked it and said goodbye to them.

I thought I knew so much about what we experience when stopping smoking…what I never realised was that I’m not alone about feeling so emotional about it. From experience I know that I will get very emotional, feel sad, cry and get angry several times a day and turn into a really horrible moody person. I also thought that I was the only person who felt the grief of losing cigarettes, it’s so irrational, knowing the facts about the damage they do.

What I also realised today is that I had convinced myself that I was too far dependant and addicted to nicotine to ever be free of it. I have re-inforced this to myself after so many failed attempts. What a relief it was reading through the thread to see so many other people who said…’if I can, anyone can’.

Congratulations to everyone who has beaten this horrible addiction, I plan to be here for a long time, initially to keep me motivated and then to stop me getting complacent and thinking that I can have that ‘just 1 cigarette’ again.

Looking forward to continuing to follow you all on your journey.

Oh thank you for that, warez...I'm sure that in all these last 4 or so years on the threads..you are the only other person who is affected by the excitement!!

There was me thinking I'd been odd (no comments please!) as, to be honest, it was the excitement times that affected me far more than stress even!! I was always, at first, 'desperate' for one for the first few seconds, but the mind soon kicked in and, like you, talking to myself got me through it. Even now I'll occasionally get a flutter when I'm excited, never a craving...just a funny flutter.

I was delighted to read that you're doing it for health reasons, I'm sure it helps keep us on track much better if it's our health pushing us on.

Good to hear the silk meter is motivating you so well, I know it's on the first post, but these days I really should be remembering to advise folk about it more.

I love your final sentence, so determined and encouraging the others to be the same. It's lovely to see you back. :D

Yes, anablle! Strong is most certainly what you call it and again you've done very, very well indeed. :j :T :j You did well in changing the coffee, leave it until you're well in control and then 'gentle' it back into your life, maybe using decaf first.

Your willpower is bound to be tested so early in, but always stay strong and keep one step ahead of your mind by shoving nasty thoughts out and replacing them with sweet ones...anything you love thinking about and doing. Buying a packet of 10 will put you straight back to square one....wanting to stop all over again...don't allow evil Nic  to drag you back!

Right now don't worry about getting people's names right, the main thing is to let 'everyone' know you're thinking of them, they will be of you too..just as warez already has been, determined too. :D

Have a good Saturday, anablle....fag-free and proud of it!

Well done for asking, Kizzy...please always do so. Others always like to help too. :)

It's so good to see you, debtisgoing! A very warm welcome to the thread where dreams with willpower, determination and courage really can become reality! Your journey has already begun, fantastic news!!!!! :T

Day 1 and you've already established some excellent statistics! :grinheart

A failed attempt is when you don't even try - you did much more than that and stopped for 8 months!!! However, something (do you know what?) made you wobble. Never mind though, here you are joining in and wanting to do your very best, you're in a good place, a place where so many understand you completely! You're never alone!

We are women and get far more emotional then men so at times of being low, let yourself cry, don't hold back as it helps get it all out of the system. Likewise, if you're feeling ratty as though you could scream - grab a pillow or cushion and hold it around your face and scream into it!! No one will hear you as the sound will be absorbed. Also at times you're feeling low....go for a long walk and make it as brisk as possible; pounding the pavement, path, field, park..wherever can be marvellous for helping you to feel so much better afterwards.

We're here to help you, L, and I hope you feel very welcome and part of a community where folk help each other through good or bad times.....and believe me - if I can - you can!!! :)

    Every best wish,

    Sue x

Well, a highly successful day, everyone, well done to you all!!! :D To those recently stopping - keep up the marvellous work!! :T To all those thinking about it...don't wait too long...give it a try, even if it's for just one day, who knows you might want to then try day 2 maybe more! Give yourselves the chance to find out, you're committing to nothing, but it'll feel good to just try - won't it?!

Have a lovely weekend, folks, but always beware of the alcohol, keep it at a minimum and keep your senses.

Morning all ! I wanted and expected to be full of excitement and happiness today, as my quit day. I did so much planning ...even wrote out a housework schedule to keep me busy, focused, and organised :rotfl:
and it seems I'm not going to get much done at all as I'm absolutely shattered ! was up all night with my little dog, who is recovering from an op recently and I'm too anxious to get up. I'm laid in bed as I know if I go downstairs the 1st thing I will do is reach for a cig, but I can't lie here for the rest of the day ( even though I want to) I just feel anxious and disappointed in myself...even though I haven't had a cig yet, I have that voice in my head telling me you can start tomorrow... sorry for the ramble :D
  • Hi Kizzy01,
Have you got time just to lie in bed and take deep breathes for a while? I usually jump out of bed and I'm having my 1st cigarette of the day on the doorstep, before I even know what day it is. I found that I have a horrible sinking feeling when I wake up and realise that I wont be doing that. I need to give myself a good talking to and try to overcome the feeling before I get up. Everything is so much more difficult when we're tired, hope you get the chance to focus on you today and can get a rest. Good luck.
