Morning all ! I wanted and expected to be full of excitement and happiness today, as my quit day. I did so much planning ...even wrote out a housework schedule to keep me busy, focused, and organised :rotfl:
I'm laid in bed as I know if I go downstairs the 1st thing I will do is reach for a cig, but I can't lie here for the rest of the day ( even though I want to) I just feel anxious and disappointed in myself...even though I haven't had a cig yet, I have that voice in my head telling me you can start tomorrow... sorry for the ramble
Morning Kizzy,
So sorry to hear about your little dog, I do hope he/she soon recovers. Don't worry about rambling as it helps us know exactly how you're feeling and how to respond.
I can promise you though that there aren't many folk who wake up full of the joys of nor smoking - so you're not alone - remember those words!
You could put it off until tomorrow - but - will the situation be any better - honestly?! How about this:
Get up, have a glass of water, clean your teeth and have a shower (3 great things to do on that 1st day and then start to potter around and keep as far away from any fags as you can. Take an imaginary sniff of a dirty ash tray..then busy yourself...al the while telling your little dog that "Today I'm not going to smoke any cigarettes...for your health and for mine! What do you think about that little fella, we can start a whole new life together....and you'll get over that op a lot quicker without me smoking!!!"
The truth is we will always meet stressful occasions on days when we can cope with them - and days we can't! Right now think ahead to tomorrow - and how it would then feel to get up with a whole day of stopping having gone by!!
Read the PM, and do all the things you'd planned and maybe have a kip this afternoon...not for too long or you'll not b having a good night tonight.
See how you go then come back and let us know exactly what happened...thought not what we want to hearbut what happened, how you coped or.......!
I'm right with you, Kizzy..we ALL are and we've all been exactly where YOU are now! Many still in just the same place as you.
Do your very, very best and don't forget the quitters pledge on the other page.

Hi there
Last smoked 4days 10 hours ago! Yay. (Well, apart from one puff, see below)
Had a tough day yesterday, but also, ultimately, the moment of revelation I needed.
As the day wore on, the desire to smoke got worse and worse, no physical cravings, just an empty hole in my tummy (and my head)
Anyway, I then started eating sweets and chocolates to try and fill the void. I mean lots, must have eaten about 20. Then the self loathing kicked in that I was going to get fat as a result of not smoking, which has always been my biggest fear (shallow I know).
I then decided that I WAS going to have a fag, absolutely certain. Shooed the kids to bed and plundered my OH's supply. Went outside, lit it, took a drag and oh my god, it all just hit me how foul it is, what was I doing and threw it away. I went all dizzy, went to bed and woke up this morning coughing and having a mouth like a badger's backside. And that was just from having one drag! It made me feel proper poorly. I also woke up feeling really groggy.
BUT I think I had to do that to realise that I am actually missing absolutely NOTHING! I just let all the feeling of woe is me engulf me I was almost encouraging it so I could relent and have a fag. Bizarre.
Anyway I feel that I have now come through the other side and realised that I am now a non-smoker BUT I need to take better care of myself as that bolsters my self esteem which makes me stronger in the physchological battle that is giving up fags.
I hope all this resonates with someone, and can maybe help someone realise that fags try every trick in the book.
Anyway, good luck everyone and have a good fag free day.:)Smoke Free since 1 January 20130 -
Hi everyone.
Newbie checking in here! I'm 26 years old and have been a smoker since I was 18 and am fed up of the smokers cough, the standing outside in the cold and rain and the feeling of having these tiny little sticks control my life. Plus the extra £500 or so a year that I reckon I spend on tobacco wouldn't go amiss at all either!
Over Christmas and New Year I went home and stayed with my parents and I don't smoke when I stay with them as I know it upsets them, and I found myself surprised to be able to get for a day or two when i was with them without having to smoke (Then I'd end up at the pub and destroy all my good work). Ever since I came back to my home I've found myself thinking if I can go for a day or two without, then why not a week? A month? A year?
So with this in mind I'm making the commitment to stop starting this Monday (7th Jan). I've never really tried to stop before so not sure how I'll feel but reading some of this thread has given me a good idea of how it might be. Going to try going cold turkey and have already told my smoking buddies at work that I'll be doing it and they're really supportive so hopefully they'll sneak outside without me noticing!
Anyway, wish me luck! I'll keep you all posted as to my progress.0 -
Well done everyone. My stop smoking day is Monday.... scared but determined to put a stop to this once and for all!!0

Hi babes21 and a very warm welcome!!!
Well done for jumping in and giving it a go! Scared is such a very natural feeling after having them with you for so long. However, I'm sure the fear will soon subside when you realise that it's not quite s bad as you think.
I'll send you a PM to help you so please keep a look out for it.
Very best wishes indeed!
