  • Hi Sue

Yes it does! Think I've got another month on the tabs to go. Do they lower the dose like they do when you are starting?

    Hi Sue
I gave up smoking almost a year ago (22/5/12) after almost fifty years. The difference this time compared to previous attempts (and there were a few) was the work I did on my head. If I had a fluttery tummy it was a nervy turn not a crave - that sort of thinking. Also the time of year was ideal for walks and plenty fresh air. I started regular swimming sessions and did pilates over the winter which was an enormous help for teaching proper breathing.

Fingers crossed I've made it this time. I wouldn't give up the new healthy me for a poisonous little stick ever.

    Good luck to all.

To be honest, IAASA, I've no idea. I tried looking it up just now, but only had a limited time to go through the many links. Did your CN not give you any idea? I would have thought she should have.

We've had many Champix users on here over the years and none have ever mentioned it. If you have to go to your CN again, ask the question and do please let me know as it's always helpful for other future quitters. :)

More days chalked off IAASA, brilliant work!! :T:T:T

A very warm welcome to you, CUL8R, to MSE too. :D

So VERY many congratulations on the time free from (as you rightly put it) poisonous little sticks!!!! :T:T:T:T What a lot of thought and.....great determination you've put into quitting this time round, and look how it's paid off for you!! I am so very happy you came here to tell us of your great success, and even happier that you MADE it!!!

The mind is the greatest tool we have to help us in quitting, sadly most people can't be bothered to think around helping themselves which is so sad. I feel fairly sure that you'll make it and I'm sure, with you mind again, you WILL do it. After a complete year of getting by without them and being able to cope fag-free you will have completed your journey and reached the goal! The completion of a full year is totally amazing - I was absolutely overjoyed! :j You will be too! From there on..and your mind I never see you wanting to go back - after all - what could be achieved of doing so?

I'm so chuffed for you, cul8r, and very many thanks for coming here and telling your story, you could well have helped many people by doing so. Any time you wish to come and give a few words of advice/help to folk, please do.

    Thank you!

  • Hello all!

To be honest I really haven't a clue what day I'm on but its approximatly 2ish months!

Went to the nurse again today and it was my last appointment! I've been given a prescription for my last 2 weeks of champix tablets. I answered my own question in as much as you do reduce your dose back down again.

However they just give you the starter pack again so you have to remember to take the tablets backwards rather than how you started it! I'm sure I'll remember.

So from 2 weeks Monday, I'll be doing it all alone! Wow! Its gone so quickly!! I'll try to find my earlier posts so I can work it out properly.
  • Its been 8 weeks and 2 days!! Feels like longer!

Still going strong then, IAASA!! You say the time's gone slowly, but to me it's flown by, but then I'm on the outside looking in which makes a difference. Whatever, excellent work!!!! :T:T:T

I'm so pleased you've told us how it works with the pills, it's good that we now know. That sounds like a good way to do it and I hope you find do too, just be sure to write down what you're doing.

You're doing tremendously well, IAASA, better than I thought you might do in some of your posts, it just shows how strong you can be with a little help. Not long now until you join all the other Champix quitters who chose to swap the old life for a far better and healthier lifestyle!

I know I've said it many times before, but be so terribly proud of your achievements to date, you may have used Champix but it was YOU who chose to change your life and YOU who chucked that last 'orrible butt away, that act alone took real guts!!!

    So very proud of you!

    Hugs, Sue xx

Thanks Sue. I'm under no illusion that the journey is over, I suspect this was the easy bit and I had the tablets to hold me up as it were. Once I'm off them its the focus on what I've achieved and keeping that going so I don't fall back into old ways.

I may not post much, as I'm going to focus on not thinking about it too much, but if anyone is reading this who was worried about taking Champix as I was. Then don't. You will be fine. Yes the nausea isn't plesant but its worth it.

I found a link to this thread and have just read the opening post and the final page.

My DH stopped smoking over a year ago. He first went onto electronic fags and then about 5 months ago went cold turkey.

However, since then he has really suffered from mouth ulcers. We have researched this and it is one the the side effects of quitting :(. In the space of a typical month, he might be free of ulcers for about 2-3 days but the rest of the time, he has them. They make it very painful to eat and he complains, in frustration, that it would be easier to just start smoking again. He says he wont go back to smoking, but I was wondering if anyone else had experienced them, and if so, how long they went on for?

He has been the GP numerous times and we are waiting for a 2nd hospital appointment but I was wondering if anyone else had experience this, and if so how long they went on for. S

You may feel being on Champix to have been the easy part, IAASA, but I still reckon the hardest part of all was saying tara to that last one; no matter what it was you who decided to do so. ;)

However, yes, you now have to stay on your guard and never become complacent - or tempted - not by 'thoughts' or so-called friends who are just wanting you to go back and...make them feel less guilty because they still smoke!!

You'd be amazed how many on these threads have had such 'friends', but stayed free and proud!!

Always remember the highlighted sentence of yours above, IAASA, you hit it square on! See - you're getting there and fast!!!! :grinheart

I can quite see your point in the last paragraph, and it's a good idea. Just do me a huge favour and come back every so often to let me know how you've done, I'll be so grateful.

Hugs and loads of good fortune, Sue xxx

Hi izoomzoom and a warm welcome! Firstly, many congratulations to your DH on stopping - and staying stopped throughout it all, well done him!!

Soreness of gums and roof of my mouth are definitely due to people not smoking any more. Before, the nicotine and all the other chemicals stopped oxygen from flowing around those parts, now it's returning and has caused the ulcers.

Hardly any people complain about the recurrent ulcer problem, but I experienced them on and off for quite a while, though I never connected it to quitting until doing some research when another quitter mentioned it.

So, it obviously affects some of us and not others! It affected me on the tongue mostly and luckily they never became large and pus filled, but if his do then I see why it would be such a problem.

Whilst you're waiting for the hospital appointment, try some of the cream sold in chemists..if you haven't already done so, at least it helps it to be more bearable to eat.

I'm far better these days and only get one very occasionally which may be due to medications I take.

Whatever happens though, do assure him that, suffering ulcers in the short term is far, far better than risking suffering smoking related illnesses for a long time! I wish you both well and that he is soon free of them, but it may take a while. Be patient, he will win, of that I'm quite sure! ;)

Please congratulate him for me!! :T:T:T and tell him to be so terribly chuffed with all he's done! :grinheart

    All best wishes, Sue x

  • Hello!

Just thought I'd pop in to say hi!

Only 3 more pills to go and I'm done with the Champix!! Woohoo! Quite excited actually. I don't really miss them anymore which is a relief. I was watching a programme last night where people were smoking and I thought to myself, that would be nice and then I remembered the horrible feeling of coughing and the horrible taste and I decided that it wasn't nice after all!

How I get on after the tablets have done? I'll report back but I think I'll be ok.

Now all I need is for a tablet to stop me spending money and I'll be set!! :D
