    Hi everyone.

Just popped in to say it's now 18 months since the last cig :T:T:T

I stopped using the Book and the support on this thread so a huge thanks to all.

This is the third and longest time of quitting and I don't even think about the dreaded weed anymore but I do thank my lucky stars I'm not running round like a headless chicken looking for cheap fag places any more :D

I smoked over 100g of baccy a week and if I can do it anyone can.........oh Just to let you know what I spend the money on now....... four rescue dogs so everyone's a winner :D

Its been 19 weeks today since I stopped smoking. I just had a quite flick through of my posts around that time. God, you can just smell the panic and fear coming from them can't you??!! I don't really struggle day to day now. Every now and then I'll say to myself that I miss smoking but other than that I do good.

The hardest bit for me was when I went on holiday to spain a few weeks ago. Sitting in the sun with a smoke on the go was one of my favourite things when I used to go on holiday and for the first part of the week it was super hard. Smoking is obviously not as frowned upon there as it is here and you could smoke pretty much anywhere and most people did! So it was strange that I wasn't and it took a shed load of will power to stop myself going to buy 200 and smoking the week away. However I knew that if I started I wouldn't stop when I got back home and I'm liking that I'm saving some money!

WOW, IAASA, you've done incredibly well!! You thought you'd possibly succumb during the summer months - and to a degree - so did I, but I really hoped you'd grow to like the new you and you've done just that!!!!!! :T :T:T

I'm delighted for you! :D It sounds as though if you can make it on holiday, in a place where sadly it's not so frowned on...you can do so full stop! I sincerely hope you'll stay proud of your HUGE achievement and never look back.

19 weeks is just fantastic, IAASA, and I'm so chuffed you dropped in to tell us. Keep it going and know you'll be ok!

    SO many best wishes,

    Sue xx

  • Hi

Subscribed to your thread hoping you don't mind. I am hoping it helps me. I've tried everything and I really want to stop so hoping for moral support from everyone as I have tried everything else. Glad to see it can be done and hope to be where some of your are in the time to come.

Congrats to you all, you should be so proud. My journey is about to begin (again)

    Hi Tracy

Well done for making a great decision. I smoked for nearly fifty years but stopped almost 18 months ago after a few tries over the years.

Three things I would advise you to do when you feel a crave:

Breathe - deep breath in and blow out through your mouth until your lungs are empty,

Drink water - sometimes you are just dehydrated,

Remember it takes 72 hours for you body to get rid of nicotine and a crave lasts only a few seconds and breathe, breathe , breathe until the crave goes.

    Good luck.

A very warm welcome to the thread, Tracyiw, it's always a great day when someone who's kept on trying comes on the thread to give it another go. It shows you really do want to stop, and that's the most important thing that you need - the desire to stop! :)

I've sent you a PM, read through it and do take note as it really does help you.

Come on the thread as often as you wish/need and let any feelings pour out, that really is so very important. So you give vent whenever you need to.

Start each day with the Quitters Pledge remember. This has helped so many.
    Quitters Pledge
"Today I promise not to smoke any cigarettes, tomorrow - if I wish - I may do."
Renew the pledge every morning on waking. This helps in not making quitting feel as though you're planning something lifelong, it helps trick the mind in taking it all one day at a time. The lifelong part you determine for yourself when you're ready.

Go on, Tracy, this is doable and we're here to support you all you need.

    Bon voyage and hugs,

    Sue xx

What a wonderful greeting for Tracy, CUL8R, thank you so very much indeed for giving her such great help, for others too who are looking in. :D

Many congratulations on having stopped for sooo long!!!! :T I bet you feel now as though it's the best thing you ever did, I know I certainly did. If you'd like to help any time, please do, and thank you so very, very much.

    Hugs, Sue xx

  • Hi Tracy

congrats on your decision :j wise move! Just take each day as it comes. I'm almost coming up to my 1 year anniversary and I honestly feel so glad to have stopped. I have found leading up to a quit I have felt quite afraid of taking that leap but literally the day I did it was ok. The lead up is honestly the worst!

  • Hello everyone!

I've been looking for a stopping smoking support thread and so glad I found all of you! Do you mind if I join in?

I started using e-cigarettes last Saturday (when they got delivered) and haven't had a roll-up since.

I've been smoking on and off since I was 19 - so . . .(doing the maths) . . . 8 years, although I had quite a few stretches during that time when I stopped because I couldn't afford them!!!! :D

But decided to give the e-cigs a go, because
    a) realised i don't even like the taste of fags anymore
    b) i'm at the point now where me and the OH want to start trying for a mini-me

I don't know if other stoppers think this is cheating but I have found it so invaluable to help me stop!!!

Am I still allowed to be here? :o

Hi guys, thank you all for the support, it means a lot and reminds me I'm not alone :)

Sue, thank you I have read you pm and have certainly taken note. In times of need I'm sure I will be referring back to it :)

determined, congratulations on your 1 year anniversary, that is a great achievement :T

I have tried lots of methods so far and the thing I found helped the most was lozenges so I have stocked up :) this is the first full day without smoking and I'm feeling confident so far. In all previous attempts I struggle from 5 o'clock until bedtime, as my mind never seems to want to stop thinking about it, but this time I am going to push through it :)

    Wish me luck :) xx

Good luck to all quitters. I found it helps if you think ahead for meals as when you are hungry you might be more inclined to look for a crutch, the evil nic stick! Carrot sticks and nuts to hand.
