I am a thinker your very right often to much. Work out wise I do cardo and weights. Used to cycle much more than I do, a combo of coming off my bike twice and far to many cigs saw me really struggle with that.

    All the best claire.

    Morning All!

Haven't been on here as had sick children to tend to at home, nightmare!

One back at school, one dozing on the sofa so getting there.

I have been fighting off whatever they have got so fags have been the last thing on my mind (well, nearly!).

Just went for a walk with the dog and it still amazes me how my heart no longer bangs in my chest and that I can breathe and walk at the same time, its amazing!!!

Food tastes better (unfortunately!), my energy levels have increased. All is good.

I read the posts on here and am willing everyone on to get past that first hideous little bit. Then it gets so much easier.

I know I am not out of the woods and shouldnt be complacent, but I know that this is it. Great feeling.

Short term pain for long term gain!!!!! Do you want a living life or a living death? I know which one I choose.

Good luck everyone today, one step at a time, one fag not smoked at a time. Just think short term, not long term, cos that fries your brains.

We can do it with the support of each other. :)

Hi Part Mouse, thanks a lot for telling me about the exercise you do, but for how long do you do it (at a time) and how many days a week?

However long/much it is - try doubling it while you're attempting to say cheerio to the fags, you'll feel one heck of a lot better for having done so - AND - it'll give you less time to think! ;)

Please try to think of other more lovely things instead of analysing as that's most likely where your depression is coming from - it was that way with me! Please fight against thinking and move onto beautiful thoughts, you'll feel much happier.

Another day without the cigs, PM? ooooh I do hope so! Just before you get into bed tonight (and all the other nights without cigs) smile at the thought of how you got through that day and how well you did.....and be so very proud of yourself. :D Every day without is a huge step forward.

    Hugs, Sue xx

I'm finishing this post with an extract from warez's post and it's how you all should be looking at stopping.

When I was younger I suffered with eating disorders and train pretty hard as it is but know I have to be careful not to go to hard at it.

Still smoke free, cravings arnt getting any easier though. I'm on a break now from some meds that make the depression a lot worse, hope my mood picks up a bit soon.

Sorry to hear about that, Part Mouse. Ok, so you're not able to exercise any more at present, but rather than thinking back about what's gone on in your past (things you can't change) step forward to a far better future - because it is out there if you're prepared to look.

So long as you keep well away from cigs and temptation, then the only cravings you're feeling now are those left in your mind by nicotine, the real cravings are now gone..along with the nicotine from your body. :D

Are you still trying to find things (hobbies) to do to help get your mind away from these so called 'moments'? Doing something you like will help you more than anything else. Think of something! Then come back with a positive and not a negative! ;)

As you're now on a break from the meds that worsen the depression then now is the time to be doing all that's within your power to free yourself from fags too - so you heighten the feeling of wellness.

Please, PM, with having a far more positive attitude you'll find you will find happiness!

    Positive hugs, Sue xx

    Sue

Im going the book route and DH is more scared so is going the patches and spray route. If I finish the book and do well before him I will try and get him to read it. He actually said today he was more like 50 a day than 40, so I understand his way is going to be slower and cut himself right down then stop. I just want to end it full stop, so more reading tonight.

We have bought a new motorhome and are going away Friday for the weekend and I have said no smoking whilst we drive, we didnt smoke in it when stationary before.

We are skiing for the first time at Easter, so need to get fitter plus we are fed up of having to stop what ever we are doing all the time to have a fag. The kids will be so pleased when we stop.

Part Mouse - Part of giving up smoking is embracing a new lifestyle - you seem in such a negative place and Sue is coming up with some brilliant suggestions that you appear to dismiss. Maybe empty your mind of all your pre-conceived ideas of what you can/can't do, do/don't like and take a risk! Try something - you never know it could be the one thing that you were looking for. There is a hobby out there for everyone, it's just finding it, it could be something simple like meditating, or something more complicated like jewellery making.

Please try and open your mind to new things and try to think positive - there is no reason why you can't do it and many many other people can.

Would you be giving up smoking if you didn't have your op? Maybe that's the problem, you feel forced to give up something that you don't want to. Go onto whyquit.com and I bet you will want to. It has got some heartbreakers on there. Instead of thinking that you have to give up, why not think - 'right then, fate has decided that the time is now, I will grab it with both hands and make the most of it'.

I hope you don't mind me speaking so frankly but my heart bleeds for you and I want to take your pain away. :(

Chin up Partmouse - don't look back, look forward. Good luck xxxx

Claire21 - good luck. You sound really positive. Stick with it, you won't regret it. :)
