I once got a couple of boxes of books from a Freecycler and about 25% were really saleable on eBay (I hadn't discovered selling on Amazon then:o ). The rest were in good condition and have all sold at carboots. It depends on who is offloading the books and why. The chap who I got mine from was clearing out everything before emigrating and didn't care what happened to them so long as they went!
He didn't even ask why I wanted them or what I was going to do with them. I find this everytime with Freecycle. I collect stuff to sell for our local Hospice Appeal but nobody ever asks what I want the stuff for! Unless the Offer listing asks for charities or 'deserving causes'only to apply they obviously don't care. Most Freecyclers want rid asap so if they don't ask there's no need for you to say anything.
I agree that you could end up with a load of tat but it's still worth having a look as otherwise they may just go to landfill and you could always Freecycle them yourself if there's nothing you fancy when you get them home:rotfl:. We Freecycle a fair amount of the things we've had donated to our Appeal which just won't sell (after a reasonable time trying!) via the very small Shop,eBay or carboots. I'm sure the original donors won't mind as they are going on to a person who might make use of them rather than the tip.
Good Luck!0 -
i just sold this for £10
Ready-made Family (Fanfare) [Paperback] by Forest, Antonia
I'm delighted!
THANKYOU ALL SO MUCH FOR THE HELP ON THIS THREAD!Every day above ground is a good one0 -
well done crutches fantastic
i agree impom the idea of freecycle is to reuse etc etc and so long as it isnt specifically stated not for resale just for good causes etc well its fine
in return for items i have picked up off freecycle i do try and use the service to recycle items to redress the balance so to speak i dont just take take take
items that i perhaps could have sold but havent got the room to store until sold etc just got rid of a double bed for example so it does work both ways
every item i take i try to balance by giving something backSave 12k in 2015 member 187. £62.50/60000 -

In our Freecycle group (which I moderate) we require anyone who is going to make a profit from reselling to declare this to the offerer so they can make an informed choice as to who they give the stuff too. Some don't care and some do - but this way we feel is fairer. We wrote it into our rules so it is best to check carefully in the group you belong to.
Personally I don't go for the books offered on Freecycle 'cos then it is into the realms of business (and I still havent made up my mind! Just as I think things are going well I have days without a sale and then 6 altogether! Maybe when we have managed to move ...) but if I did I would make sure that the person knew what I was planning to do with them, as ethically I think it only right to do so. Most givers on Freecycle do so to help someone else - they could all sell them if they wanted to - it is the ones who can't be a*sed who dont usually mind!0 -

I agree. Reselling things gained from Freecycle is particulaly contentious and it is better to check out your local group's policy before assuming that people giving stuff away don't mind.
There are lots of Freecycle threads dotted about the forum where different points of view are expressed. There's quite an amusing one on the Freebies board HERE which lists some of the more outrageous Wanted requests!0 -
Our freecycle group are also almost militant about stuff not being sold on for profit, although if the seller advertises it as "mixed lot for carboot2 then i guess you are safe !
sales so bad at moment im going to stop selling now, its not worth the worry over a sale every 3 days !
thanks for all the advice given here, hope you all have a good selling year

Damn - I am gonna miss you! I enjoy your posts. But I reckon / hope you will be back - you will always be thinking "well I can put them on for free so if I sell one every 3 days it is a bonus!"0 -
Hi- I've been selling stuff since January- very slowly- but now seem to have hit a very annoying glitch. Almost all my listings closed at once and i thought it would be simple to click on relist etc. Well they have relisted but also stayed on my closed list causing me real confusion. Also I can't seem to get rid of anything off the closed list. Not long ago I found that also things were staying listed after I had sold them. How do I find a link to ask someone to sort it out? Anyone else had this problem? Or am I doing something wrong?0

I moderate a Freecycle group too, and would ban someone who we found was selling items on without advising the giver that this is what they were planning to do. It does say this in our rules.ilovefreegle.org - give it away don't throw it away0

Hi
What do you all do about storing your amazon books, cd's etc? I now have a big box full and have more to list. Where on earth am I going to put it while I wait for the elusive buyers??
