I've been following the conversations in this forum for about a week now and have found it very helpful for both its advice and its common sense approach to issues that arise from selling on Amazon. I looked at the Amazon sellers forum and found it to be very cliquey and "up itself" very clever clever and self congratulatory with only a modicum of advice. This forum is a welcome breath of fresh air. So thanks everyone! :T

Hello soulcadet1 :hello: welcome to our thread - if you like this one there are 8 prior versions for you to look at with only around 8000 posts to read up on......

  • I think that Rare and FFM (where has Amazombie got to? I haven't seen him around these parts for months) will know Amazons point of view but mine is that I'd do it.
Tell your buyer about the other book and if they want it either ask if they use paypal or 'sell' them another of your books ie, get them to make a purchase of something else that you are selling, at the price you're happy with after fees - and then relist it later.

    Hi AT

I was wondering where Amazombie was only the other day, hope he's okay - if he's lurking perhaps he could just post us a quick 'hello'?

It is in Amazon's Participation Agreement that you won't contact buyers to offer other items, however, a friend of mine does it all the time - never had any problems.

Personally, I wouldn't do it as I have too much to lose if they close my account.

I've been tidying my book 'shed' a bit, fighting off the spiders as big as dinner plates and trying to find some books for ebay to try and get my stock turning over.

Came into the house with a pile of books, sat at the PC chair and got bitten by something on the back of my thigh...it really hurts :(

I've no idea what it was, but I appear to have two pin size holes in my leg and it has swollen up and now it's numb. I only came on here for some sympathy as I rushed to get OH to show him the marks on my leg and he's more worried I might let the roast burn , grrr.

I have no idea what bit or stung me, as there is nothing dead by the chair and I did strip of my skirt to shake it (DH thought that was very funny) to see if anything fell out, but found nothing.

    Gone off book selling.....

I would give her until the end of next week and then make an A-Z claim via Amazon on Tuesday if the book still hasn't arrived. (That way you have allowed the seller a week to address your claim.)

I don't see what they are 'looking in to' - they will essentially have to make a claim from RM if the book doesn't arrive and refund you.

Whenever I've had an email saying that the item hasn't arrived, I ask the buyer to wait until xx specific date and email me again if it still hasn't arrived. I then do a full and immediate refund without asking any further questions. Most times the book arrives by the deadline that I give the buyer.

I haven't had to make an A_Z claim as a buyer myself.

i have received a reply now

    "Hi,

Thank you for your emails. I have heard from Royal Mail and all they can
say is that it is in the system. They have also said that it is too soon
to class the book as missing.

I can offer you two options, I can either send you a replacement book or
issue you a full refund, which ever way you decide let me know by email.

    Thanks a lot"

although i'm not sure what she means by she has heard from royal mail now...? i presume it was sent 1st or 2nd class so don't know how they can say its in the system either

and if she says it is too soon to class the book as missing why is she offering a replacement or refund...?

    Hi Pinkgem

This may just be her standard response to queries regarding lost books. It is possible that she had actually forgotten to post it out which is why she is offering a replacement or refund, or she may have additional copies in which case she is trying to protect her feedback/reputation by keeping you happy.

If a buyer had told me a book had not arrived after a few days I would assume it was lost (if they had contacted their sorting office) and would offer a refund/replacement if I had further copies or could source it at a reasonable price myself from Amazon/Ebay.

I would not expect a buyer to wait for the full time that Royal Mail quote for lost post.

 Until they were recently republished I had never sold one for under £18!! And some often sell for more still, if they haven't been republished yet, as they are only republishing the series slowly, and even now it's possible to sell the old copies of ones that have been republished for up to £10. And yes I am referring to the paperback editions. Old hardbacks in this series can go for a lot more if in good condition and with dust jacket!

Mine are the Mayfair paperbacks where there are quite a few copies listed. Most of them even have a few penny copies listed but I generally list for a few pounds.

I'm happy with that amount though and I don't undercut so I'm not responsible for the devaluation! ;)

I have just listed a few books today and have sold three already :T

I don't have any jiffy bags so I have wrapped them in brown paper and put the packing slip inside the book..I have done a quick search but it seems most people use jiffy bags to post. Do you think brown paper will be secure enough or should I invest in some jiffy bags from Ebay?

    Thanks!
