    That's great news ...well done.

I understand where Tirian is coming from to a certain extent. We all get buyers that for one reason or another we are unhappy with.

In these circumstances I follow a couple of fairly east checks.

    1. Does EBay address and PayPal address match
    2. Check contact details are accurate and give them a ring again checking STD code matches address.
    3. Check their details on 192.com and/or b4usearch.com (not foolproof I know)
    4. Even google them can work.

In 4 above I had a Swiss buyer an address in Brussels and was rather worried but I googled him and he warked for the Swiss Govt in the EU so I was happy.

but for 99% of trades it will be fine to post on receipt.

The poster is being totally unreasonable to her Buyers and has not the first idea how paypal works.

    LOL ...

    (a) his buyers

    (b) I prefer to judge my reasonableness by the record of people who've actually dealt with me - I have over 1200 feedback from sales of which three are negatives, all of which from non-paying bidders.

I'm not especially bothered by name-calling from someone who has never actually bought anything from me. I sell quality goods, give refunds for items damaged in post as long as the buyer co-operates with the insurance claims, deliver quickly and package well - and my feedback testifies to such.

    (c) I assure you, I know very well how Paypal works - and it has saved me from being scammed on at least one occasion. If you and others are determined to believe that Paypal can take money out of your account without authorisation as and when they like, that's fine - it's no skin off my back.

I have experienced two chargebacks in my time, both on an empty Paypal account and on neither occasion did any money get taken from my bank account without my specifically authorising it. In the first instance once all the insurance details had been sorted out, I refunded the payment. In the second instance the buyer did not respond to any of my emails or co-operate with making an insurance claim. As such, I did not refund them. The Paypal account is in negative and has been for the six months or so since this happened. Nothing has been taken from any bank account or credit card associated with the account - which is good, because the buyer was clearly trying to pull a fast one. They had actually already been suspended by eBay user when they filed the chargeback!!!

Granted I may be wrong (as I originally said) but PP does state:

The receipt of funds in your account balance, unless charged back, shall discharge the sender from their payment obligation to you, up to the amount of the funds transferred by the sender.

Therefore as a seller you have no right to make a buyer wait until PP fulfils there duty to you with regards the transferring of funds.

This is legal gobbledygook and doesn't make any sense. You don't know until 45 days after the payment is made whether it is going to be charged back or not!!! Therefore you don't really know until 45 days later whether the sender has been 'discharged from their payment obligation' .. should I wait 45 days to post my items then?

The bottom line is, money cleared into a bank account is safe; an uncleared cheque or a Paypal balance, or a pending bank download from Paypal are all completely unsafe. If anyone sends out goods on the basis of any of these they clearly do so at their own risk. You accept that risk - I do not.

    Do your auctions state this?

    Cheques technically never clear....

As said above, if I sell and take the money out, if someone makes a chargeback and someone else has paid beforehand, that balance will be withheld for the chargeback so maybe the seller hasn't thought things through?

So technically, it isn't safe when it's in your bank account if you continue to sell.

If I paid by PP I'd have a problem with a seller not sending for a week, I bet the seller didn't take bank transfer either?

I have been caught out by this. We sold a top of the range bed for £645. The buyer paid through paypal, and delivered the bed using our own transport. Even after the money had reached our bank account paypal took it back. They said that there was a problem with the buyers credit card. So we contacted the buyer who said that she didn't have the money to pay us, and that she wanted to pay over 5 months.

We then contacted paypal to try and claim under the seller protection policy. Paypal then told us that we weren't covered because we didn't use a courier with on line tracking. This is absolutely crazy as we delivered using our own transport, and the bed was in our posession until it was signed for and delivered to the customer........just one of paypal's many get out loop holes:mad:

The buyer has made no effort to pay us, so we are now taking legal action.

Good luck. If the buyer is in serious financial difficulty you might have to settle for installments, but if it goes to court you should get your money eventually.
