The point is the unacceptable time delay.

As a seller as soon as someone pays me via PayPal then I post the item out, I have done this on items upto £2,500.

If I felt that all monies had to clear into my bank account it would be pointless trading on ebay as my feedback would soon reflect my poor customer service.

If I am unhappy about a buyer I do my own checks on them.

If you are at all nervous about this sort of thing selling on ebay is probably something that folk should not get involved in.

As for cheques I wait the required time to clear but to be honest I don't get many of them and of course the same applies to bank transfers, but the great thing with bank transfers is once you have the money in your account its yours (ok there is an argument you should wait 24 hours)

If you want to do that, then of course it's your prerogative - but to dictate to everyone else what level of risk they should or should not be willing to accept is just arrogant. So waiting for cheques to clear, or downloading a balance into a bank account isn't "100%" safe - but it reduces your risk.

I don't see any problem at all with waiting for any form of payment to clear before goods are sent out. Mostly I will send out immediately - but for a significant amount of money I would certainly wait.

I've never had to wait 7 days for a Paypal to bank download - usually 3-4 days, so could easily post within the time-scale required.

So please, no more of this "if you're nervous about this then ebay's not for you" rubbish. There ARE scammers out there, it IS possible to lose a significant amount of money because you've not waited for a payment to clear. Taking a common sense approach to reducing your risk is NOT scandalous, it's just a different way to do things. You might not like it, but tough luck - not everybody has to be like you!

I certainly didn't feel like hintza was dictating, just telling us what he/she (sorry) does. As are you, does that mean you are dictating to us too?

It is just things like this that I object to:
If you are at all nervous about this sort of thing selling on ebay is probably something that folk should not get involved in.

Merely because someone chooses to do things a different way, for perfectly valid reasons, is no reason to say that they shouldn't be on eBay.

That and saying that waiting till a payment clears is a good reason to give someone negative feedback.

Somewhat contradictory too, since Hintza admits that they won't send goods out before a cheque has cleared - why not? Isn't that "saying to the buyer I don't trust you" as well?

I've actually never had anyone try to con me through a cheque payment, but I have through Paypal.

To be fair though I think that was more an observation than a condemnation. Nowadays Ebay isn't for the faint-hearted, and if anything is going to cause you (the royal you not you personally) to freak out then your probably better off going to the shops.

There are people posting on this forum who worry for days about payments, scams etc and in the end its not worth it.

There are certain expectations buying/selling on ebay and one of those is if you offer paypal then once you have received payment into paypal you have been paid, not when the money has gone from paypal to your bank account. If that is when the seller considers themselves paid they should not offer PP and offer bank transfer instead.

I always thought that Paypal was classed as an immediately cleared payment method, (apart from echeques) isn't this why it is used ?

If you have to wait for a seller to have the money in their bank account, you may as well send them a cheque.

The money goes into my account, I post the item, end of story. When I chosse to withdraw the money to my bank is up to me at a moment that is convenient to me.

I would certainly avoid this seller in the future.

If a seller chooses to delay posting until PP is transfered into Bank acc, they should clearly state this in there listing.
If my seller had not contacted me last night i would have been non the wiser and prob have expected delivery of item tomorrow or at the latest mon(they state 2 working days)

I always post items as soon as payment reaches PP i would not dream of waiting until money had been transfered to bank acc and the odd cheque i get if under 10.00 and FB ok i will send without waiting for clearance.
I have as yet not had any probs (famous last words!!)

I might be arrogant. But the point I was trying to make is that for me as a seller with customers to keep happy I would not expect them to wait seven days for a purchase, I try to differentiate myself from other sellers by offering postage within 24 hours of cleared payment reaching me (and I take a normal paypal payment to be that once it is in my account).

I just wouldn't buy from a seller if there was an inkling that it might be seven days before they posted it. And if they took seven days to post I would seriously consider leaving them a negative unless they offered an apology and a good excuse.

I agree, and I would also mention something in the sellers feedback to let other buyers know...especially if they dont mention it in their listings
