Why don't you invite someone round for lunch? Some neighbours have a regular night where they take turns eating at one persons house, one brings the starter, on the main and one the pud. Might be a welcome idea if you have other folk nearby who are on their own?
I'd do it but all my neighbours are couples and I have two ninja toddlers at the moment. Doesn't make for good socialising, sadly...
Nice idea...may have to consider that. It's a bit like that around here, couples and families and the odd singles are considerably older(that doesn't bother me as such)
If I do I'll have to invest is some new furniture though I think, we were going to until Mum took ill and passed on:(
It's ok for me and I can make do but again if I suddenly have to downsize and am forced out I'd hate to waste money on items I'd have to get rid of...but I take the idea on board."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

After I cleared out her under sink cupboard yesterday DM gave me two black sacks of kitchen pans, utensils etc. I'll keep one or two bits and wash the rest and give them to the local recycling warehouse which gives things to homeless/hard-up local folk.0

Yesterday my mum gave me.....
an enormous fruit cake she'd made.
I think she sort of expects me to keep it as a Christmas cake but it's so big, and looks so lovely, I want to cut it in half and save half for Christmas and have half of it now...Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0 -
my DD gave me her best boy dog! Happens twice a year when three of her girl dogs come into season. (But I have to give him back in about three weeks
. In the meantime he digs up all the clover on my lawn - and grass but he's a real poppet so I can forgive him anything
)

Last week a neighbour threw out a lovely old dresser type chest of drawers - the mirror was missing but it was too nice to pass by.
Anyway I knocked on the door and asked if I could have it and got another neighbour to help me get it down the road.
Then the gentleman came out with the mirror for me!
(one of just a couple of neighbours that I don't know)
Anyway it is now stuffed with paper as the down side is it smells of moth balls - yuk!
Also my friend is giving me a lovely old metal bedstead which I shall use to make a day bed in the back room. Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.
