What's done is done Granny. There is no point in stressing over it. You have spent the money it's gone! DGD2 will love the present, you will love her loving it so let it go. Start today anew.
Sorry your weekend didn't go as planned, that's the way sometimes. I'm sure your mum didn't mean to hurt your feelings, probably just heat and age.
As never to old says you can't choose your family or how many dogs they take on:eek:

Thanks both, I feel so much better today. My mum has always had a strange attitude and so I shouldn't really be surprised. She is besotted with my daughter, her 1st grandchild but seemed to run out of steam after that. She's also never been too keen on boys, so has never really built up a good relationship with my son. She used to ask to take my DD out but want to leave my DS behind, which distressed us all and in the end DD refused to go. This weekend bought those feelings back. My sister had it worse because her DD got ignored whilst my DD had gifts lavished on her. This is one of the reasons that the others don't have a relationship with her.
My DGD absolutely loved the pram and doll I bought her and is trying to walk with it and picking her baby up and saying Aw baba, over and over again, so its £50 well spent.
My dad has just invited me and my mum to go away for a week with him and his dogs in the summer, to which I've kindly declined. I don't think they realise how stressful being with them as a couple is as they are so used to it. He seemed to accept my "thanks but no thanks", although he tried to "talk" to me about Saturday too.
Never mind, I'm off to see my lovely DGDs now for some well need Granny cuddles and kisses. Its another hot day and I've painted my nails all pretty sparkly, just for their benefit. :kisses:
Chat later and thanks for listening

Aww Gx2
I did write a nice long reply this morning and then the silly pc lost it:mad:
I am sorry the weekend was not all you hoped for and the difficult situation with your mum and DS.
I totally understand and my mum (well step really) is the same but oppposite in that she prefers boys. I have 2 step bros and the younger of the 2 always was and still is favoured by mum, yet he probably does the least for her. She too was never much of a baby person and finds it hard to understand why she and DD are not close. Strangely she is very close to DN elder bros daughter.
Still as the others have said you can choose your friends just not your family.
Hope you had a great time with DGD, I have just been out to buy a "stroller" to keep here for DGS when he comes to stay. It was good value and comes with a rain cover. Will come in handy as we have just seen the start of a storm shower :rotfl:
Take care and enjoy the rest of your day

Dear NewRoadAhead
Thank you so much for your kind reply, its so good knowing that there are others who understand the situation. Its funny, its so much easier talking on here to you all as I don't feel as though I can talk to anyone else about it, well other than my DD, without being disloyal to my mum etc. I don't want to drag my DD into it either as she loves her Granny very much.
I had a lovely afternoon and have come home now to pack for my business trip tomorrow. My mum wanted to come with me for a free trip to the hotel but I managed to put her off, saying that we wouldn't get much time to be together as I'm going to work. I really don't think I could cope with much more and need to have some me time.
I'm staying in a really nice hotel and only working for 2 hours so have 24hrs+ of me time, even if some of that is on the train.
I've got over feeling guilty about the extra spend as I spent less than I would have in the past and she loved what I bought her. My OH was more cross because it looked like a lot of money had been spent but I'd bought everything on special offer or with vouchers so paid much less than it looked.
The sun is still shining and I've got the windows thrown open to air the house and the sounds of the lovely little children next door playing is so heart warming.

Hi Granny, sorry you've had a rough time of it. You're very wise to turn down the week away in summer, sounds like it would be wall-to-wall stress and you can do without that.
Hope the trip away goes well and you get to recharge your batteries, you must feel drained xLBM Dec 2011. Aimed, but failed, to clear all unsecured debt by Feb 2019. Finally free of unsecured debt 21st May 21!

Yes, I actually can't think of anything I'd want to do less. It was hard saying it, because after all they are my parents but sometimes you just have to think of yourself.Hope the trip away goes well and you get to recharge your batteries, you must feel drained x
It was lovely. I worked for 4 hours yesterday morning, travelled for 6 hours, got to the hotel, which was lovely and after checking in went for a walk in the evening sunshine to find my meeting venue for today and just blow away the cobwebs. The venue was so close to the hotel, I actually walked past it at first and only saw it when I was on my way back - LOL, the walk did me so much good though.
The £20 in my purse, that has been there all month, is no more but its pay day tomorrow and I'm really pleased with myself that I managed to keep it until the end. I will get it all back too and a bit more besides in expenses for being away from home for 30 hours.
All in all, with a couple of wobbles aside, this has been a successful month and it is all down to my new found support on this site. Thank you to you all for aiding me in my fight to return to solvency. I've been able to tell you things that I would have bottled up without you. This site should be given out on prescription in my eyes.
Successful day today, 3 hour meeting, walk in the sunshine and 6 hour journey home. NSD apart from car-parking fee of £12 that I'll get paid back as purchased food for today in the supermarket last night and forwent the idea of coffee on the train as I didn't really need it. Really feel as though my batteries have recharged, sat on the train with my lunch, my ipod, my kindle and my sun glasses and managed to avoid chatting to anyone all the way home. Pure unadulterated blissful 30 hours with only 3 hours of work involved.
BFN a very much revitalised Gx2 x

Gosh I'm tired today, must be the long journey yesterday. Certainly nothing to do with the fact that I was doing the MSE DFDs lurk until the early hours. :rotfl:
Got a busy day ahead of me today, writing up my notes from my meeting yesterday but think I may finish early.
Only tomorrow left and then off until 12th June, oh how wonderful :T:j:T
Off to have some porridge and a strong cup of coffee to wake myself up. Chat later
May do a noddle search later and update my signature - see how the day goes

Hi Granny, glad you are feeling better after your time away. Your Mum sounds very similar to mine!! She once introduced me to someone as 'her daughter, not the skinny pretty one, the other one'!!!!!!

Hi granny2, Just been reading your diary and wow some people are soooo thoughtless, its very true about choosing friends etc. I suppose in some ways Im lucky as I only have my 3 daughters and we are all very close, but each of them are very differenat so sometimes I have to be very diplomatic.
I have had a respite from MSE and have just come back for inspiration and get rid of my CC and OD debt its not very much in comparison to most people but I only work part time and earn just enough to live on (my choice) so I have to be very careful if I want to pay any extra off. Anyway I will be following your journey, keep positive and Im glad you feel better after your working away:)
