Hi having a bit of a panic, my daughter is in year 6 at school - she attends a before and after school club that I receive tax credits for as I work full time, I have come home today to a letter saying that they have done a review and have discovered that she doesn't attend XYZ nursery and I can only claim childcare charges if she attends a registered childcare provider - basically saying i have been overpaid and made fraudulant claim - she left XYZ nursery in 2005 when she started reception at school and attending the before and after school club. I called tax credit to tell them, they reduced my payments as its obviously not as expensive as full time nursey and I have been receiving payments ever since and renewing every year based on what I currently pay, it looks like they amended the financials but not the address of the provider, all details were provided including ofsted registration number that they needed. Have tried to call but keep being told to call back later so will try tomorrow, I can't afford to work without the tax credits so hopefully they will get it amended asap - has anyone else had this situation? How quick will they get it done, also took a week for the letter to arrive and they have only given me a week to get information back to them although they haven't actually requested anything just said I need to give correct information if I disagree with what they are saying - bit of a nasty letter considering that as far as I am concerned its their error!

I've gone through all my notice that i've had sent and at the end it says no need to contact them if nothing has changed is this right? It's for child tax credits
Wishing everyone the best of luck for 2020 ☘️
  • Dont panic I think as long as you can prove you have used a registered childcare provider for all the time you have been claiming and Ita the correct amount I don't think they would make you pay back.
Best to get proof from the new morning and after school club and all their registered details I think you will be fine.

Did this come after you had done your annual review ?

Yes if it came in a brown envelope you don't need to call or send anything. It's an auto renewal unless you expect to have any changes in circ

Thanks, I managed to get through to someone finally after I posted, he said the same thing, just odd that the amount changed but they didn't update the provider details. She has been where she is now since she left the nursery and they are all properly regulated etc.... Will call and speak to the person who wrote the letter in the morning. All the past renewals have been for the amount I am paying - I thought they would have checked every year bit surprising that nearly 7 years later they are doing the first check!

Oops forgot not done the renewal yet - haven't had my P60 yet. Chased it with the accounts dept last week.

Hi i sent mine the 21st April it got there the 26th April i received a letter the 24th May saying they were doing a childcare review had to send in bank statements and childcare contracts and payments they received it a week Friday haven't heard yet is yours a single claim and have you got childcare
  • I have had the same, they requested al childcare receipts and three months worth of bank statements. Slightly panicking they are requesting all this with no explanation. Mine is a single claim and I have childcare.
  • hi all i posted a question last week regarding a potential underpayment as a result of my husband having earned much less than he thought. Anyway, i renewed on the phone last wednesday and yesterday had my normal payment and then today i had a one off payment and i assume this is underpaid child tax credit. Then today i recieved some cheques for my husband with no covering letter the cheques are from HMRC, does anyone know if these are likely to be for working tax credits? obviously these would be paid to my husband and my acc attached to tax credits is only in my name.
Anyway, I have had my claim sorted in less than a week, i feel bad as i know lots have people have been waiting much longer and i know how hard it is waiting for money when you have kids, Hope everyone gets sorted promptly.
