Got mine this morning - renewed by phone - told to wait until 14 July before I chase them up. But was told I should get various award notices in next few weeks while everything is verified etc. And mine is very simple - just ESA and earnings for me and earnings for OH. In the meantime, the chap I spoke with said I will get anything back dated from 6th April for the basic amount that everyone entitled to gets. Then we should get anything extra later on also back dated to the 6th - that is assuming something is due! We will see. Based on what I worked out using benefit checker I reckon on extra £7.52/week for CTC. But I'm not holding my breath.

This puts me off claiming WTC - think I will stick to starting the permitted work route. For those re-claiming, do payments stop until your new award comes in?

I either have to go PW ot WTC at end of month and wondering how long a first claim would take? Given that I will not be entitled to any LHA according to the calcs, I won't be able to manage too long with rent just from earnings.

    Payments continue for 28 weeks.

Ah, someone else. This is a problem.

    HMRC are a joke!

I have 2 children and our joint income is 31,800 according to HMRC information on their website the threshold for my circumstances is 32,200. My renewal came through saying I was not eligible for tax credits so I rang HMRC to verify my details and the operator agreed I was eligible to receive tax credits but the system said I was not! I asked for this to be escalated but she insisted there was nothing she could do and I had to wait for my new award to come through.

  • Hi all,
Not sure i am posting this in the right place but was wondering if anyone could help me
My 2011/2012 tax credits were based on our previous years earnings of £20,000 then later in the year i rang them to tell them we would probably earn more like £18,000. My husband is a self employed bricklayer and work has been poor so when we did our tax return we worked out he had only earnt £11,400. I have just renewed my tax credits and told them this and was wondering if anyone knows if we will be due anything back as a result of an underpayment? We have three children aged nine, four and two.
    Thanks :)

Hi just wondering if anyone could answer my question, we have only been claiming since march and £106 is paid in weekly, we have two scholl age children and between myself and husband earn £17000 pa, i renewed on mondayand declared our change of wages, our p60's we earn a joint income of£14200 so a drop in wages. Will i still receive the £106 next tues or will they stop it, or will it be more or less, also some people have mentioed extra payments, would i be likely to get two payments in one week or is this only for new claims?
    Many thanks for your help!x

Yes you should get quite a big lump sum, probably close to £3000

It'll go up if it was previously based on £17k. You usually get an extra payment when the process the renewal (this isn't extra money, they just pay you what they owe up till that point in the year).
