My lastest statement from the Northern Rock shows they have dropped their exit fees from £250 to £160. :D My mortgage was taken out in November 2002.

    Well done mse :T .

The exit fee at the Portman BS was £55.00 in November 1998 and was still that amount when my mortgage went through in May 1999. (I've got the original documentation).

I have recently moved my mortgage from Portman BS. I have received a cheque for £52.50, as mentioned the exit fee should have been £55 - deed transfer was also taken into consideration.

I did phone and was asked to write a letter. Received a prompt reply stating that the matter would be reviewed, within a week or so received a letter and cheque. Very professional company, thank you.
  • Hi Folks.

I took out a mortgage with the Woolwich in Sep 2006. I wanted to increase the borrowings to get the Kitchen done, but was told I would have to redeem the mortgage and take out a new one.

I did this then fell foul of the £295 exit fee. After reading some of the comments on here I rang them and asked where I stood. They said that because the fee was in myoriginal small print, they won't refund anything.

Is there any more I can do?

The Skipton 'Redemption Discharge Fee' was £75 in 2002

From their "Important Mortgage Information" booklet 20/12/02: "7.14 'Redemption Discharge Fee' This fee covers the preparation of the documents for discharging the mortgage (including sealing where necessary) and updating the Society's records".

The next item in the booklet was "7.15 Early Redemption Fee" just to clarify that the 7.14 above is NOT the early redemption fee. :)
