Mortgage Exit Fee Lender Table

  • Yorkshire Building Society are claiming that £73.50 was their exit fee from a mortgage i took out in 1992. After seeing Martins interview this morning i contacted them with regards to the exit fee i was charged (in 2003), they claimed i had been charged £100 and that they would be forwarding a cheque for the difference (£26.50).As a side note i had no paper work relating to my old mortgage only the account number. Not bad for 10 minutes work, cheers Martin
  • [Having contacted RBS over a mortgage exit refund I was informed that although my mortgage was taken out in 2002 and paid off in 2006, I was uneligable for a refund as I had borrowed further funds in 2006 at which point they changed my Exit Fee to the higher rate!! - A good loop hole for them and bad luck for me- always read the small print I guess!]

It's not a loophole, the FSA ruling was that the MEAF should be charged as at your last contract. Your last contract would have been to take the further borrowing, I'm afraid.

I just had a response from Woolwich today. Was like pulling teeth - I had to get back on to them when they ignored my letter for three months. Was then told that the date the funds are advanced is the one which is used to determine the correct fee (which is clearly wrong, it should be the date of the signed mortgage acceptance). Eventually got them to agree this but they claimed to know nothing about payment of interest on the refund.

Anyone had interest paid by them ?
It's only about £6 but they were the ones guilty of profiteering so they should pay.

One more thing with the Woolwich -
When I originally signed up for my load with Woolwich, was waiting for house to be built so there was 6 months before the advance was made. In the interim the takeover by Barclays was completed and I needed to sign a new mortgage agreement (With a higher closing fee as it turns out).

When I called the claim hotline I was initially told that no refund was due since the fee I paid was the one on my agreement (the second one signed).

If you are in the same position you need to keep the pressure up, I was told to write to Woolwich to explain the situation in order to get my refund.

    SCARBOROUGH BUILDING SOCIETY:

They're taking calls on 01723 504 323 about exit fees. You need is a rough idea of the dates you took out and redeemed the mortgage, and the address of the property. Someone will call me back within 48 hours to tell me if I'm entitled to a refund - will update!!!
  • Hi,

Just looking into this after successfully claiming my bank fees.

I had a mortgage with Scottish Widows and changed it in Nov 05 but i am not aware of any charge they made at this time.

Can anyone advise me if they know if it is policy for Scottish Widows to charge and also if anyone knows a phone number i could call?

    Thanks.
