Was thinking of doing last week, but thought I would get no where. Then received Martin's email and saw the board - so i thought i would give it a try.
Had the broadband already at £17.99 a month and couple of weeks ago ordered the tv - which would cost £20 for broadband and tv. Called them today to tell them I only ordered the tv for SKy One. They offered 2 options:
1) Cancel
2) Delay my installation date.
I asked if they had any other options, as i also wanted tv for the world cup starting this week, eventually they offered free upgrade on tv package to XL for 6 months. Which is great, as it means I now get sky sports for £16 a month instead of £24 a month and i get a few extra channels.
Thanks Martin.0 -
I phoned and was lucky to speak with a lovely scottish lass called Patricia (Big Celtic fan). Nothing was too much trouble for her and she spent time going through the options I had. Patricia kindly offered me savings of £19 monthly on my BB and TV/phone deal.
Thank you MSE and Patricia!0 -

Thats good of Virgin Media to give you half price on your packages. The channels that were taken off were free channels so you werent paying for them anyway so thats brilliant!!!
sky channels were never part of the 'free' channels you get - the free ones were ones like QVC, price bid etc (ex nynex/ntl/cable & wireless employee)Willow: I knew it, I knew it, well not in the sense of having the slightest idea, but I knew there was something I didn't know!0 -
Hi all
Let me tell you what I managed to get out of Virgin Media. Did a little home work first.
I was on Lowest 2mb broadband, telephone with no inclusive calls and lowest level T.V. all for £30 per month. Then my phone calls are added ontop of that leaving me with a bill of over £50 per month.
Called their 0800 number, waited about 40 minutes to be answered and basically told them:
a: Can get cheaper and faster broadband from talk talk
b: can get all local and national calls inclusive, with broadband for £20 with talk talk
c: I watch sky one!!!!
So I told them I am closing my account because I can do better on all 3 services.
After a very polite conversation for about 10 minutes I was offered
a: 10mb broadband (XL)
b: all local and national landline calls free, low cost international (XL I think)
c: lowest level telly. (Truth be known I can't stand skyone, not into sport etc etc) (M)
All for £26.08 - FOR EVER - Not for 6 months or 12 months or even 18 months. FOR EVER.
EVERYONE STAND YOUR GROUND. THIS HAS SAVED ME OVER £25 PER MONTH WHEN I CONSIDER MY PHONE CALL CHARGES PER MONTH
Good Luck.
Damn! I think I negotiated in reverse  . I previously had XL TV, XL BB and Talk Unlimited - £32. TU had fallen off and had gone to £12.60 prompting me to phone up. I therefore phoned today and after 40 mins (only 5 minutes talking to them) I had 2MB BB and TU for £19.99 (this is for life - he said 10MB and TU would be £36), with TV XL continuing at 1/2 price for the next 4 months.
Still a reasonable deal (or is it compared to what you got above?!) but have dropped three stages on my BB.
Going away to be annoyed with myself ...

I have called ntl/virgin and simply stated that I thought they were too expensive and why was it that only new customers got the good deals. The man was very helpful and let me have my same package which was TV XL Phone M and BB M for £30 which was a whole £20.50 cheaper then I was previously paying so I am really pleased. :j
May call again soon to see what else I can negotiate on the phone side of things.:D
Thanks MSE, I wouldn't have called them so soon if I had not had the email. I am now spreading the word!!! :T

thankyou all for your posts, really does help knowing what other people are paying for. Really irritates me how the price for the same services can vary so much.
btw got my
TV-XL,BB-l & basic phone discounted by £4 a month
and free V+ and second setupbox
costs me £43 a month for as long as I'm with them :-)0 -
After trying for 3 days to get through to actually speak to someone, I finally got through last night at midnight! Negoiated to get telephone line rental, essential tv package and broadband for £30 per month combined, for a year - saving of £10.50 per month = £126 refund. Well pleased.
NB - went back and had another go and got this offer upgraded to life or as long as I stay with them0
